Great Ideas for a Saturday:

I was amazed at how much traffic this post received. I did this as sort of a random post of some ideas that I thought would be helpful to any homeowner.

I can tell you that there were more copies of  one particular image than any other image I have posted….

Now who would have thought that either one of these ideas would be so popular? You just never know what will be a hit in blog land.

I must admit that the first and the third post were a total surprise to me, but the Springboard post was a post that I put a lot of time and thought into, so it really makes me feel good to see that you, my readers appreciated that particular post.

I guess that is a good thing, it will keep we blog authors on our toes, always searching, and reaching for new and better ideas for our readers.

I hope that I can continue to entertain, inform, and teach you all throughout this upcoming New Year. 

I must say thank you to all of you who have been so faithful in your reading, commenting, and visits here on my blog. It is because of all of YOU that I keep writing.

My Color Pick For 2012

When it comes to liking a certain color it will always be subjective in my humble opinion. However, there is a color board that chooses a new,  “Color of the Year!” every single year. Remember last years……..

I don’t know about you, but I did not see very many people jump on that bandwagon, or trend-train as I like to call it.

This year I am sure you all know by now that Pantones, color of the year is……….

TANGERINE

Tangerine Tango

According to the official announcement, the deep red-orange color is intended to give us all a big energy boost; a refresh and a recharge. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Institute tells us more about the choice for 2012:

Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.

If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, if you are a friend or relative of mine you know you will NEVER see any of the orange related colors in my home.

I discovered in the early 70s after investing my hard earned money on some new expensive, for that time, linoleum that I can not live with orange. For some reason it makes me feel nervous inside and uneasy!!

Colors are very important in our lives and they truly can make or break our moods.

Since I don’t usually jump on the trend-train and I pretty much stick to what I love I decided last year that I would start making my own announcement of my own personal color of the year for ME!

The definition of Kathysue’s color of the year is:

 A color I would like to add more of, or introduce into my home.

My Last Year Color for 2011, “Cobalt Blue!”

So with all that being said, I thought I would choose my very own, “Color of the Year!” for 2012!……

EMERALD GREEN

1. A brilliant green to grass-green transparent variety of beryl, used as a gemstone.

2. A strong yellowish green.

You will notice I used the words Kelly and Emerald to describe the bright green I would like to add in my home.

They both have the same definition as far as the color family they are in: Strong, Bright Yellowish green.

I actually thought that emerald green had a bit more blue in it. I think it falls somewhere in the middle. Not totally yellow, and not a totally blue based green.

Since I have decided to introduce it into my  home I have to figure out a way to do that.

I actually have started the process by purchasing a wonderful pedestal from my friend Terri of La Dolfina blog.

She is a  fabulous treasure hunter, and she had this Kelly/Emerald green pedestal in her curio cabinet the very first time I saw her home in person.

I absolutely fell in love with it. When she put it on her blog and said she was offering it for sale, I jumped at the opportunity to purchase it.

I rarely, if ever purchase something that I don’t know exactly where it is going in my home, but I did this time, I went with my heart.

I have a pretty good idea it will work in my living room with a few changes, but nothing concrete yet.

Now I am on the look for ways to use Kelly/Emerald green in my decor by pinning, and collecting images that use this lovely color.

So far I am finding that I love it in small doses, and I love it the most with a  lot of white, and touches of black.

I discovered when looking at images that I only like it as a dramatic accent piece, not as a wall color, or as a solid color of a sofa.


I am going to have fun this year looking for ways to incorporate, My, “Color Of The Year,

Kelly/Emerald Green," into my home.

"TIME!"

It is almost here, 2012!! We all have been given the gift of another year.

I know some of you will read the words I have written here, others will just skim over the images. I hope you who have  taken the time too come by my blog today will take the, “TIME!” to read what I have written………



.....I look at my upcoming year a bit differently than I use to when I was younger. It is not so much about how much I will get done this year, or how much stuff I will get, but I look at the time I have been given as a gift.

I choose to use my time as a precious gift, and when I get the opportunity to spend time with my loved ones or friends, I am going to use my time wisely.

 I know it feels as if time goes by faster,but trust me we have same 24 hours as our ancestors had. What is different is how we choose to spend our time.

Life has taught me a couple of really good, and meaningful lessons about how I use my time, some were hard lessons and some were wonderfully pleasant lessons, but I did learn from them……..

One lesson, and the hardest lesson in my life, was taught to me at the age of twenty four when my Dad at the age of 47 died of a heart attack.

My world crumbled at that very moment. You see I was a Daddy’s girl, through, and through. I basically thought this man could walk on water.

Through losing him I realized at a very young age, that it was the sweet moments, the time I could never get back. 

I might have pictures, or gifts he had given me, but I never could get back the time, that precious gift of time to spend with him.

I remember thinking if I could just have 30 more seconds to tell him once again how much I loved him, and  how much I appreciated him, I would give up everything for those precious seconds of time.

I am not glad that my Dad died, but I can truly say I am glad that I learned how important it is to spend my time wisely when it comes to the people I love and care about.

My other lesson was a happier lesson, and it came in the form of a little 6 year old boy. 

We had our boys, and their families here for some occasion, and all of the girls were in the living room talking about, design, hair, make-up and the latest fashions. 

I was in the middle of a story when my 6 year old grandson came up to me and asked me if I would play volley ball with him. I told him sure, just give me a few minutes to finish my story.

A few minutes to a little guy is an eternity, so of course he came back in a very short period of time. I stopped my story, and looked into those blue eyes and said, “Sure, Grammy will play with you!”

We went down the hall, got the beach ball and started tossing it back and forth down my almost thirty foot hall.

All of the sudden, that little guy came running down the hall, hugged me around the waist, and ran back to his end of the hall, and we continued our play.

It was not hours, truly it was maybe 10-15minutes, but the point had been made. I put him, and spending time with him above everything else, and he knew without a doubt how much his Grammy loved him.

You see it is not the amount of time, it is the quality of time, and how you choose to spend your time that matters.

.....Time is a gift, we all get to choose how we will spend it, and who we will spend it with. 

I pray that this year you all spend your time wisely and lovingly with the special people in your lives……….
