When the air gets crisp it is time to plant some ornamental Kale. I always plant it in my winter garden. Ornamental Kale will add a sculptural shape, texture and color to your Fall/Winter garden.
In the above image you can see my Fall plantings from last year.
I chose a color pallet of white, yellow, and purple. The soft green and white ornamental Kale was the perfect texture for this mix.
Every year I try to vary my color pallet slightly, but it always includes a touch of purple and ornamental Kale.
In 2011 I chose to use mostly purple flowers with ornamental Kale. My pumpkins will range in color from dark green, light green to white.
Kale can also be used inside your home. I like to use it in my kitchen……………
Easy to grow and maintain, so don’t be afraid to use it inside or outside in you very own home.
Here are a few more ideas on how to use Ornamental Kale…
I love the waterfall of the sweet potato vine, and creeping Charlie.
You might not have an urn this large, but you could still do this on a smaller scale, or even in your flower bed.
As you all know I am not an orange gal, but this is stunning. I love the offset design using the wheat.
Mixing the purple and white varieties makes a beautiful display.
Let me leave you with a group of plants that will mix beautifully with ornamental Kale to give you an idea of what you might be able to apply in your own garden…….
You will notice I use several plants for color and texture. This is what works for me in California, and I know it will vary in different parts of the country.
I don’t know about you, but I am ready to go dig in the dirt!!
