The PORCH Is DONE!!

I am so sorry I have taken so long to get pictures posted of my porch! First, I had to finish a few projects like the trim on the lampshade and pot the palm. Then, it rained for three days. I went to take pictures and there was this funny glare on my lens. I'm not sure what is going on there. I am not a photographer and I have a horrible time getting a good picture. One other thing I have learned through all of this is…. Now I am nervous to show you with all the hype and post I did on it! I hope you all are not disappointed in the outcome. Don’t get me wrong I love, love it and enjoy having my coffee out there every sunny morning with my feet propped up on my cute little Greek Key stool. Soooooo here it goes, My Porch………

This picture shows my little suburban Californian ranch. Can you see how adorable a black and white striped awning would look on my bay window? I know my mind never stops designing. It is always on the move. Next is a closer look…….

Ta-Da!! this is where I sit and have my morning coffee and prayer time. I listen to the little fountain and the birds singing bright and early. The sun rises in front of my house so it stays nice and cozy in that little corner. My favorite thing to do is to turn on the sprinklers and listen to them and watch as they water the lawn. It is always the simple things that bring so much pleasure isn't it? I will show you more pictures from different angles. I hope  you don’t mind………

Notice the mirror, it use to be oval. I found this one at Home Depot for $37. It was a perfect style to go with the stripes. I found the Greek Key Stool at Big Lot’s for $45, and after its makeover I was one happy girl!! You can read about the stool here.

This gives you a better idea of the size of the curtain. It is a 54” width and I shirred it on the rod to about 30”. It actually gives me just the right amount of coverage to avoid the morning sun, but I can still see out to my yard.

Here you can see my wall planter. I bought this years ago at Tuesday Morning for $50. I had it for a couple of years before I actually hung it. I could not decide whether to have it in the front or the back. After the house was painted yellow and I added the black trim it was the perfect thing to put right next to the door. You will notice all my flowers are pinks, white and purples. I use these colors in the Spring and add a little more blue with Lobelia in the summer.

You can see the design in the footstool really well from this angle. Notice the trim I put on the lamp. It is a chain pattern of circles which mimics the circle pattern at the corner of the foot stool. For those of you that have asked about the fern that thinks it is an octopus, it is called a Meyer fern or foxtail fern. It is in the asparagus fern family and extremely hardy. It has been in this spot for 30 yrs and I do nothing to it but pull out the dead branches and water it. So easy to grow. It measures 7.5 ft in diameter so it is rather large to say the least- Crazy fern!!

The lampshade has a reverse print on it so it looks pretty cool at night.Here is a picture right when the sun is going down for the day………

That is my finished front porch except for one more detail. I ordered the round boxed custom cushions in black with the cream cord welting. I can hardly wait to get them. I think it is really going to look sharp. I hope you have enjoyed seeing my porch makeover, finally DONE!! You all are so patient, even you Julienne!! You are all the best!!

Fun Project Making Progress!!

In my previous post I shared with you what Little Sweetie and I had discussed and some of the inspiration photos I shared with her. She told me that the colors she wanted to use were, of course, her beloved turqouise, black and white. The maybes are a heathered lavender in the dining room and the master bedroom. The kitchen in a grey/blue with yellows and orange. I love to hear what people really love and then guide them in a direction in which they are comfortable. I sent her more pictures that showed some of the combinations she was requesting to see if this is what she had in mind. Here are some of the pictures…….

What a fun way to bring in color combinations. I showed something similar in the other post. Fabric on Homasote board makes a great huge piece of art!

All of the above pictures shows the pop of yellow with the turqouise in different ways.

Now let’s look at some turqouise and orange in rooms.

Not a lot of orange but just enough to make this room fun and interesting.

More orange, but now we have a little introduction of the bright yellow in the tulips. Color can be added to rooms in all sorts of ways. It does not always have to be big splashes but something as simple as flowers can make an impact.

I have pictures that  show turqouise used with lavender/purples. This is a combination I had not seen much of and I really like the way it works together.

New life has been given to this night stand with the bright pop of color.

Notice the one heather/lavender pillow on the sofa. Still we have all the colors that my Little Sweetie likes.

This is a good example of pulling colors out of a fabric to make it all work.

This room has popped some red into the mix but it could have just as well been bright pink or the orange.

This room reads as a turqouise room because of the bright rug but most of it is all white. We have a pop of bright pink in the flowers and a touch in the rug border. Another good study on how to do color right. It does not necessarily have to be every where. It just needs to be in the right spots.

Since my last post Little Sweetie bought two oversized dining chairs and she and hubby has recovered them in her bright pop of pink. It looks like they are going to go for the white Ektorp sofa with black and white striped pillows. They will also be adding some floral or patterned pillows to the mix. Paint samples are being purchased and sampled. They are really on the move.  Next post I will talk about paint colors and how we came up with which rooms to paint which color. To be continued………..

GLASSES

I recently saw this darling video at a new blog I was visiting, Varnishid.blogspot.com. As I viewed it, it conjured up my recent experience of picking out new glasses.

  I wear glasses, however, it is not an age thing since I have worn glasses since I was four years old. My face does not look like my face without glasses. With that being said because glasses are such a part of my face I hate to make changes in their appearance. Since I like to stay fashion-forward, every two years or so I do the dreaded task of picking out new frames.
I think it is like asking someone to pick out a new nose or a new mouth. Now how many of us could do that in an hour appointment.

No this is not ME!

 Well, I have a very dear friend, a soul-sister. This friend always tells me the truth about how I look or even if my feelings are a wee bit off. She is my true mirror.  She recently had to choose new frames also and we commiserated how hard it was to pick out new frames. We want to be current and not look like a Nana. You know, in style, but not too trendy. Luckily I could take the sample frames to her and get her honest opinion.  She agreed with my choice and the glass frames have been ordered. I got a really classic pair of Versace glasses, they seem to fit my face and coloring.

If you are wondering this is NOT Me either, only in my dreams!

 I did find a web-site that has a virtual try-on center where you can upload your picture and try on different styles for any of you that might need new glasses in the future it is a good way to get at least an idea of shape and color.

You can see that when I saw this cute video I thought of my soul-sister and all of us women that have to wear glasses. This is dedicated to all of you that have the same hard time that I do in this selection and to all of you soul-sisters that are our true mirrors. Next time I will see a little more humor in the situation thinking of this video.
