I have been a long time fan of buffalo checks. In studying different images I discovered something about myself.
As
much as I love the combination of a cobalt blue and white, or a black
and white, I prefer a softer color pallete when it comes to checks.
I find it interesting that a person can love a pattern, but not always in every color, even when they truly love the color.
If
you were to guess, I am sure you would have thought I would love a
black and white check since in my own home that is a primary color
combination.
As
much as I love it on my floors I don’t care for it in a buffalo check
that is used on furniture. I am attracted to it, but I know I could not
live with its boldness in a piece of furniture.
This
is a very important lesson to learn. Don’t just assume that if you like
a pattern and you like a color you will enjoy it paired together.
It is very important to understand just how much visual stimulation you can handle.
I
have copied images of checks in green, black, and cobalt blue, but after
really studying them I realized I don’t think I could live with a piece
of furniture in any of those colors.
I have seen a few greens that I might enjoy, but I would really have to live with the idea before I would take the plunge.
You will notice that all of the images I posted today are a neutral color or a soft blue.
I
have looked at, analyzed, lived with the idea of this pattern in these
two colors long enough to know I could be quite comfortable in a room
with either.
How about you all? Is there a pattern that you love in one, color but not in another color, even though you really like both colors?
You just never know! You might see a buffalo check in my home in the future. Of course it will be accompanied with a stripe!

I never thought about this before. Interesting. I never thought I would like checks, as such, but some of the ones you pictured were attractive to me. The soft grays especially. I don't think I could live with lots of checks in a lot of contrast. Very interesting......
Beautiful photos, like them all!!

Kathy Sue, What a lovely post! I adore buffalo check! I have been looking for a light taupe or brown and white check for curtains in my living room and dining room!
You have given me a big boost of inspiration!
I am not a fan of gingham but I am quickly becoming a fan of the big check! We upholstered a headboard in it recently and LOVE it.
Beautiful pictures KathySue

It's funny, but I only like chevron in black and white. Isn't that weird? It just feels right to me in those colors. But I agree on these checks it might be hard to live with. I loves the neutrals you showed! Have a great weekend!!
Stacy
make mine a soothing greyed down blue as well, please.
for me, quieting the check's hue lends an elegance.
great to be back, lovely.

I've never met a check I didn't like! Great examples of a classic pattern that will never go out of style!
Have a great weekend and Go Giants! ~Delores
Hi Kathysue, I'm a huge fan of buffalo checks and I especially love them in the brown/tans and white/cream combo...so pretty! Happy Weekend!
I love checks, too....but I'm with you....they would have to be a soft khaki....or that gray is so pretty!

I try to never say never. Because I never know where or when it might be perfect.
But for me, I'm a fan of subtlety when it comes to fabric check. And the bigger the better.
Hope you're having a nice weekend, Kathysue!
Love checks, but the bigger the better for me too. Wonderful images!
Hi Kathysue- Well, I am back to blogging and I picked the right day to CHECK IN here, I see. Another wonderful post from you-as they always are. Take good care- xo Diana
I could just stare and stare at all of these pics. I must say, you are an ah-mazing Pinner b/c you manage to find the most incredible pics. I am sooooo in love with that second to last pic of the bedroom. I so want a whole new change to my Master. That one is dreamy to me.

I never thought of it that way, thanks for commenting on Pinterest so I could read this:) I do have the black and white on my bench in the diningroom and it doesn't bother me so I guess I like it. Thanks again!
