I Wish I were BRAVE!!

After looking at a particularly stunning or unusual room do you ever find yourself saying,”I wish I were brave enough to do that!?” I do, all the time. I have a few things that I could put on a list
  1. I wish I could paint a rooms walls all black.
  2. I would love to have a room full of fanciful colors.
  3. I love the look of all black moldings and door frames.
  4. Oh! to have a room done in all white furniture.
  5. Wouldn’t it be fun to do a brightly colored contemporary room?
  6. I would love a pink and feminine room.
  7. I am almost sure black and white awnings would look amazing on my house(I actually think I am almost brave enough to do this.)
  8. A tented playroom.
That is my list and I am sure there will be additions as time goes along but for now this is what I wish I was brave enough to do. Now let’s look at some examples of my Brave List………..

We once painted our bedroom high gloss chocolate brown. The cottage was very old and the plaster most uneven which the high gloss highlighted fabulously. The fireplace, timber and furnishings were all white and the floors dark stained 6" timber. It looked amazing when everyone else was going peach!!!
I am surprised at how much I like the first image
thanks for a lovely visit again Kathysue as always I have enjoyed.

Now I have forgotten how to count as well as everything else!!!! Image No 3 is the one I like

Kathysue, Wonderful post. That was so much fun thinking about the what it's. do you think we will ever be brave enough?

You could certainly could do the awnings. I loved the kitchen with the black hood. The black rooms are beautiful, but not in my house. I did live with dark navy walls in the dining room for years and loved them. Loved the pale pink walls in the living room, too.

The black rooms are GORGEOUS. I have always loved this look. my next door neighbors have it in their family room and it's fantastic & sophisticated. I think a pink room is next on my list. I want to turn my guest room like this, pale peach-pink....ah, who am i kidding. i'll never get around to that!

I enjoyed all the pictures, KathySue!...Christine

I think I could live with the black, just not all the bright colors. As you know I painted my kitchen a really dark chocolate, that's pretty close to black and I love it. If things were to change, I would paint the walls a really soft beige and the cabinets black. Now that would definitely bring on a ton of comments from the DH. He almost fainted at the chocolate walls. lol Great post. Hugs, Marty

What a great thought-provoking post. I would be afraid of the black walls, but the images you posted are gorgeous! With 2kids, a husband and 2 dogs, I would have to forego the all-white look for the dog-hair & fingerprint colored palette!!

A friend of mine whose husband does all their decorating once painted their dining room walls black. It was an older home with high ceilings and huge moldings....it looked fabulous! In the 80's I painted my master bedroom chocolate brown and it was stunning. AND I've always wanted black and white awnings but it would not work with my present house.

Great post!

I love the black walls you have shown...very interesting....not sure I could live with it--I would have to visit a place for a while and get the feeeeeeeel of it!

What comfort zone. I threw that out a long time ago. As I tell everyone it is only paint. If you think you made a mistake ,take a moment to think. How can I use this. I had my tall hall way painted a yellow( my fave). I also have nooks on the lower floor, plus a stair wall. For some reason all the yellow just did not sit well with me. I had crown molding put around half way uo. I then painted a short hall wall with deep goden brown. Then I took both colors and mixwd to come up with a third color that was painted in certain areas. Now I am loving the hall. Remember am the one with the dark chocolate kitchen. hehe Kathy

Kathysue,
I just updated my blog...I now have you listed as a blog I enjoy. I love this post. I've done the black trim...it's fabulous! I've done a semi-gloss chocolate brown in our NYC dining room...it was stunning. I convinced a friend to do it in her ever so tiny bathroom and it turned out amazing! She added the layered Anthropologie white curtain to her shower rod...striking! I too am afraid to do a black room...but I'm loving the one you show with the gold frame. It's gorgeous! We have a small space in our vacation home that I'm converting to a playroom for our children and I'm doing a tented ceiling. However, it is not as grand as the one you've featured (that had to cost some major bucks!) Fabulous photos...love the inspiration.

Hi Kathysue! I could sooo see those black and white awnings on your house! I love the look of white slipcovered furniture...but with my staff, not possible! I hope you are having a great week...hugs...Debbie

so. i agree with your entire list.
all i can think of is black and white. but i think even more, i dream of painting a room navy, and all the moldings white...with bright red or lime green painted chairs + funky art....sounds crazy but im dying to do something BOLD like that.

:)
loving your list hunny.

I could do a house full of colour but never black walls - my best friend could do the black walls but not the colour! xx

I'm with you on the black and white awnings, that's almost do-able. What great images you have found. Thanks so much for sharing them.

I am the same way. although mine has to do with adding color.

Guess I missed this post when it first came in. I hate to be a late commenter!! Great photos!! I see a few rooms that are definetly Sally J rooms...all that color! I think you can do that soft pink, and you can certainly move more white in. Go for the awnings....quickly!....they are very cool! "You can't jump a chasm in two leaps!" Go for it, girl!

Great pics, Kathysue! My fave is the black moldings. I'm just going to have to do that somewhere in my house. You only live once, right? :)

All black walls might be a bit too daring or you might regret the decision shortly, but black and white stripes might work. They are a classic look and can work with any color in the event you are inspired to go with your idea of a room filled with fanciful colors.

I so "feel" ya! But, at the end of the day...I think a black room or wall would bring me down...even though its so lovely in these photos...now a tented playroom...that would be fab...but the dust! (see, I can't even be brave in the comments...pathetic!)

Kat said...

These are beautiful rooms, definitely out of my comfort zone, but I do love them. Especially that black dining room leading into the white kitchen - beautiful! I love the tented rooms, but my first thought was the same as Zhush's - yikes, how do you dust and clean them?? Hugs, Kat

I just love this list. The whole idea really. And the pictures are perfect. One of my favorite "tricks" is to wallpaper inside of panels and the image with the green sofa reminded me of how long its been since I did that and how great it could look! And by the way, many of the items would be the same. Not surprisingly - we libras have good taste :)

That second image of the dining room right off of the kitchen made my heart skip a beat! I would love to tear up the carpet in our sunroom and add wood floors then paint them in a muted gray and white diamond pattern. I just might do it over the next few weeks!!

Kathysue, so much inspiration in these photos. I'd not only have to be brave to do these - I'd have to be wealthy, because everything in my home would have to be redone. I did love looking at all of the beauty. laurie
