A Dozen Ideas For Decorating A Christmas Kitchen

 


A room that might just be overlooked when it comes to Christmas decorations might be your kitchen.

Trying to make it look festive is really quite easy. Since a kitchen has so many comings and going through out the day it is a good idea to keep it simple.

I have collected a few ideas that I really like and that are quite doable.

I am about to show you some of them including a few of my own Christmas decorations past and present in the kitchen…….

I thought I would start with my all-time favorite. I have had this image in my files for a very long time.

Anyone could add a pretty ribbon to a store bought wreath and hang it on their hutch or cupboard doors.

Speaking of cupboard doors let me show you what I did last year to my cupboard doors…….

Jingle-bell napkin rings become pretty little wreaths when they are hung on the cupboard knobs. Add a simple ribbon, and tie in a large knot. Simple, easy, anyone could do this!!

This is another one of my all-time favorites. So easy to add some greenery to your window.

Tie a few of your favorite shapes, and colors of ornaments, and you are good to go!!

Love the large trophy cups holding the mini pines. Not a lot going on, but very festive and again, SIMPLE!!!

This is my kitchen last year! I chose to put my mini-pines in three white pitchers. I love the crispness of the white with the dark green.

This year I chose to put three little mini-pines in one of my larger white serving bowls. I added three wooden spoons for a little whimsy, and texture.

The little “P” is actually the top of a cheese knife. I kept the white going by adding faux snow. I also thought it would be cute to use oatmeal which would give it a nice neutral look.

You can see that I used the same treatment on the cupboard knobs as I did last year.

The only difference is the ribbon choice. I chose a satin ribbon from England that has an outline in black. I love how sharp and crisp it is!

By adding a candle and some greenery to a common kitchen colander it becomes a Christmas decoration.

Another common kitchen item! Cookie cutters!! Just tie them together with some red, and white bakers twine, and it becomes a darling ornament for the kitchen.

How about lining three creamers in your window above your sink, and adding ribbons and some greenery inside them. I really love this idea!

This wire tree was decorated with vintage Jell-O molds. Very clever indeed!!

I am working on my kitchen still, but I feel inspired after writing this blog post!!

I Can't Wait For You To See The Gift Tags I Made!!

Yesterday was a really fun day for me!! I spent the day wrapping gifts and making special name tags.

I recently saw these gifts on pinterest, and I became inspired…….

I decided to give this idea my own twist!!

Trust me when I say these are sooooo easy to make.

All you will need is pictured below:

Everything  can be purchased at Michael’s, or Joann’s except for the bakers twine. I ordered that online last year. 

I used the red paper to make my own red tags. 

I downloaded some pictures of family members in black, and white.

Once I saw the pictures in black and white I decided  to use the old fashioned photo corners in black since a lot of my wrapping paper has black in it.

After cutting, glue sticking, glittering, and tying this is what I came up with……….

(My oldest Grandson after kicking the winning goal for the championship. I love his smile in this picture!)

I added a little border of black glitter to the red tag.

Notice the tail of the ribbon on the right. I embossed one tail on each bow with the letter “P.”

I still have more to wrap, and more tags to hang on packages, but I put a big dent in my wrapping today.

Do you know what the best part of doing the tags was for me?

What Worked & Didn't Work On My Christmas Mantel

 

Decorating is a process!! It takes some adjusting to get the look we are trying to achieve. Some things work like we envisioned and some don’t work.

I am about to show you what worked and didn't work.......

I started out with an all white base!! I really liked the clean, fresh look.

As pretty as all white can be, I have to have color in my life!! I had envisioned using my black and white striped ornaments with the all white.

(Last years mantel in black and white)

I just knew it would look amazing!!

Black and white always look great together, right?

Wrong!!!

Apparently I like black with white, not white with black.

When there is more white than black it did not look right to me.

REGROUP!!!

Color!! I need some color!! But, which color. I tried them all believe me!! The only color I liked with the all white mantel was RED!!!

This years mantel is in Red and White!

 I added the basket and the pinecones for texture.

Apparently I can not leave well enough alone because I thought I would add just one more thing to the mix.

An Addition:

I saw this image and saved it on my Pinterest boards……

I love this look! I just knew the addtion of some colored ribbons would make the mantel pop!!

In came the ribbons. Red, white, kelly green, and lime green……..

Shall I use multi-colors?  OR  Just the greens and white? 

Multi-colors Wins

Pretty? I thought so! But! I woke up the next morning, and it did not pass my first thing in the morning test!! (If I don’t like it first thing in the morning the out it goes)

So OUT  with the ribbons !!

The next addition was planned from the beginning so that was my next step!
