Something We Can All DO In Our Homes

 

I promised in my last post that I would tell you what the 3rd list is, that will help you love the home you live in now.

Before I show you what it is I want you all to remember back when you lived with your parents, and you could not wait to have your own apartment.

Then you got an apartment and you couldn’t wait to rent a house. After that came the wishing, and hoping for home ownership.

For most of us those dreams have become a reality . 

I am not saying to not continue dreaming, I think I made that quite clear in my last post, but I am saying, “Enjoy the Home you live in now.”

When I hear people say if I only had my dream home I would do……….. 

I say Why wait?

Today we are going to look at our reality square in the face, and I want you to make a new list……..

I know this will be hard for some you because you have convinced yourself that where you are living now is not your dream house so why try.

This way of thinking will only cultivate more unhappiness so let’s switch it up a bit with a new way of thinking.

First you will have to be realistic with your limitations as far as financial, and if you are renting what can be done with minimal repairs before moving.

I can remember when there was very little monies left for anything other than the needs in life. 

I remember looking at the Family circle magazine while in line at the grocery store and putting the 19 cent magazine back because that 19 cents could go towards a loaf of bread. 

Yes, we have all had hard times, but even with hard times you can make your environment more pleasing.

After you evaluate how much money and freedom you have to do something to your home the next step  will cost you nothing but time and energy.

It is impossible to see the possibilities when looking through eyes clouded by existing clutter. I know this is not the fun part, but it is one of the most important parts in this whole process.

Now take a look around at your room start making a list of things you CAN DO!!

I think you might be surprised at what you will come up with for your list.

This list should contain things you would like to change in the room. 

Don’t worry I am not going to leave you hanging there holding a list. 

In my next post I am going to share some ideas with you. These will be some ideas that you will be able to do, so get ready with your list!!!

Living With Your Dreams and Staying Happy!

 

Subtitle: How To Love The Home You Are In!

Do you find yourself saying this……….

I am sure we have all said this from time to time, and to be honest I think it can be very counter productive!

If we have these thoughts all the time we are not living in the moment, nor are we enjoying living in the home we have.

I don’t know about you, but that is a little depressing to me.

We all have to have dreams and wishes, but if we dwell on the don’t haves and the wants we will never see the potential that is in front of us in our homes.

Do you want a remedy for this way of thinking?

I think I have one for you!

I have found what works for me, and I am going to share it with you all.

First I would never want to squelch anyone’s dreams so I say make a ……

You are going to put down your dreams, the sky is the limit.

In reality this list might never happen, but it is fun to dream big.

Only rule is there can not be any sadness in the idea that you might not get what is on your dream list. After all it is just a list to dream about.

For instance this is on my dream list, and I know that it will probably never happen in my lifetime…….

But that doesn’t stop me from dreaming, and pinning beautiful images of beach houses.

Now go ahead and make a Dream List, it is really fun!!

I think we all know our reality even if we sometimes don’t like to admit it. I think it is a big mistake to not be realistic.

So, I make another list………

This is a Dream List of sorts, but this list contains things that I will get someday!  It might take years, but I know it is attainable, and within my means.

There are even times when something from the Dream List will cross over to your someday list. That can happen with time and sometimes the circumstances that have changed in your life.

My Someday List use to be much longer than it is now because over the years we have attained many of our goals for our home. 

In fact  I am getting something that was on my Someday List in little over a week.

We have lived in this home for 35 years, and I would say for at least the last 10 years we have needed to re-do our kitchen counter tops. Well, my friends that is about to happen, and it is a dream come true for me…….

I am having this marble slab made into new counter tops for my kitchen!

This is one more thing I can check off of my Someday List!

I told you all that there are THREE list that I make. I am going to save the next list for another post.

WHY?

Because I want you to think for a little bit about the two list I just wrote about.

In fact I would like for you to make your own list. 

Now remember this is a fun and happy thing to do. So don’t feel sorry for yourself in this process, only happy fun thoughts. 

Let your imagination take you to fun places in your dreams.

I promise the someday list will bring you back to reality and my third list will REALLY bring you back down to reality!!

What I Have Noticed Lately

Two design trends I see more and more of are all black and white rooms, and rooms with more color. 

Polar opposites, but both making wonderful statements in the design world.

We have seen the all neutral room evolve over the last 10 years…….

ALL WHITE

Very pretty, very calming.

Understated Elegance, my favorite look.

All whites moved over so we could move onto….

 Grays  and Greige

The design  world moves along much more quickly than the general public.

The introduction of a new color, or trend can be introduced to the public, and at first it will not be well received, it takes us some time. 

After seeing it online, or design magazines it becomes more palatable after 2-3 years.

At this point the general public is ready to jump in feet first, but the design world has already moved on so the general public is 3-5 years behind.

If you love the newest trend, or if you had this look before it became the new IT look you will remain true to that look while others will move on.

All new trends really are not new, they are just old trends revisiting. 

Very rarely do we see something totally NEW in the design world, and when we do, THAT designer is our new Design Diva!!!

Personally I am loving both the black and white revival and the use of color! I have both looks in my home, and I will still have them when the design world moves onto something else.

I never jumped in on the all neutral room that has been so popular for the last 5-10 years, it is just not me. I have to have Happy colors surrounding me.

Neutral rooms are soothing, and relaxing to most people, BUT they can be a pitfall for some. I kid you not, they really can!!
