Time to Get Ready for The 4Th of July!!!

Tomorrow is the 4TH of July!!! I guess it is time to think about a few things like……

How to make my home wear our patriotic colors:

I know! I can add  a little red with my classic blue and white porcelain. Not typical, but understated and elegant, I like that.

Talk about being patriotic?! Wow!! I doubt that I would ever do this, but it sure is fun to look at.

A little red and white toile mixed with some blue plates would be another classic look for my home. Red toile napkins or a runner would be perfection.

I am loving this ottoman with the Lucite legs. This room shows red, white and blue done in a classic way.

Navy walls when used with lots of white trim is stunning.

What shall we eat?........

We have to have the all American hot dog for part of the meal. I need a clever way to display them…….

This is a pretty cute idea. The hot dogs can make the stripes and homemade star potato chips will be perfect in the corner on a blue plate. I am not big fan of plastic dishes so I will probably use a white platter and a cobalt glass plate. The kiddos will get a kick out of this!!

Fun drinks for the adults, or make them non-alcoholic drinks for the kiddos.

Lots of fresh fruit will be refreshing. This is a fun way to add a patriotic flare!!!

Watermelon and feta platter, perfect!!

Easy to eat Kabobs. Pretty clever, don’t you think?!

Something tasty for dessert!!

Simple and tasty!!

I wonder what I should wear????

Should I wear classic white and navy? Or……

….should I add a pop of red? Hmmmm???

I could always wear something long and comfy…….

Maybe we will cruise around in one of these?……

How about floating lazily along the water in one of these?……

This looks like it could be a lot of fun!! I think this is more my speed!!

When it is all said and done, I think I will probably  be doing more of this…….

Color Memories

When we are creative types there will always be certain visuals that will evoke a memory or a special time to us. With summer in full swing I started thinking of what reminds me of summer.

I am usually inspired by colors first. In fact when I shop I will always be drawn to an object by a color that I see. I have a long history of what I call, "shopping by color." When I was in high school,  Mom and I would take a girls day, and go shopping. We would notice by the middle of the day we seemed to be looking at everything in  one particular color. We would call our shopping trips, a blue day, a green day, or a pink day.

Now, back to summer! I am sure I am not alone in thinking of the cool inviting color of blue for summer. When I think of blue I immediately think of the cool soft turquoise colored water in the swimming pool or the ocean waves.

Since this is a design blog I have to show you some pretty rooms with the color of turquoise........

It doesn’t get much fresher than adding a pop of green and white with turquoise!

The turquoise in this room  is used in all the right spots. Notice how it draws your eye around the room?

I love the wallpaper in this image and the velvet sofa looks amazing. I think I would have added a different rug to keep the fresh, cool feeling for summer, but the brown rug does ground the room and cozy it up a bit.

The turquoise in this room is added in all the right spots. The lamp on the left is so beautiful. I am in love with the swirl in the glass balls.

Just different values of turquoise and white in this room and it remains interesting and lovely.

I love love this flooring and notice the wall. It looks as if it has been stenciled to me. Someone did a very nice job on this!!

The different shapes and sizes of the turquoise decanters is wonderful in this image.

There is a turquoise beaded chandelier that has been in blog land for quite some time, but I could not do  a post on this wonderful summer color without adding a couple of images of this…….

A favorite combination of mine, turquoise and lime green. I can not look at an image of this chandelier without thinking of an accessory that I got to pump my summer wardrobe this year…….

I ordered this fun beaded necklace to wear with crisp whites or pops of bright yellows or greens. I saw this necklace last year, and I went on the hunt to find it. Every website that I went to said. “sold out!” I finally realized this necklace was not meant to be for me.

As luck came my way I happened upon it again this year on a fashion blog.  I immediately went to the link where the necklace was being sold. I thought to myself, “it will probably be sold out.”

It was available and for a much cheaper price than the original necklace I had seen last year. I ordered it right then and there. I am giving you the link, but unfortunately it is already sold out again!!!
Shop Design Spark.I did find another website that has the same necklace, but at a higher price HERE
If you want to take a chance on the lower priced necklace I would check back from time to time if you are interested in getting a necklace like this one. It became a quest for me. You can imagine how excited I was to find it!!

What color, or items do you like to add to your summer wardrobe to give it a little boost?
