Easy Ways To Decorate Your House For The Summer

When the seasons change it is nice to make changes to our homes too.

We don’t have to go out and buy new furniture, or even do major changes to make our homes look more summery.

There are some quick and easy changes we can all make to our homes without too much effort.

Before we begin to add anything new to our homes we can do a few things to give our rooms a nice surface to work with.

The Removal Process

De-clutter

  • Remove any dark lampshades and change them to white.

  • If you have shades on your chandeliers, remove the shades.

  • Lighten your window coverings with soft cotton sheers or better yet, just an open window with maybe a matchstick blind for privacy.

  • If you have wood floors, try a bare floor look by removing your area rugs.
Now for the fun part……..

 THE ADDITIONS

The Additions
USE FRESH GREENS OR PRODUCE

A collection of random bottles, clear, blue and green with clippings from you yard. How simple and inexpensive is that?

ADD A FRESH TABLECLOTH

By using a table cloth with blue, and whites you will add a fresh, crisp look to any room.

A plain white table cloth always will look fresh. If you add some blue colored glasses to the mix you will have a summery look, and feel.

Any color of  stripes will always be a reminder of the Summer months, especially blue and white!

ADD SHELLS OR BEACH THEMED ELEMENTS

 A Word Of Caution
When adding any element with a theme use it sparingly, and strategically. Other wise your home will become too thematic or kitschy.

ADD MORE WHITE

By doing any of the above ideas your home can have a fresh, crisp look for Summer!

I am wish you all a wonderful Memorial Day!

Remember what this day stands for and why we observe it.........

Summer Fun With COLOR!!!

In my neck of the woods it is really starting to feel like Summer.

This weekend we will have the pool ready for swimmers, and we will be firing up the barbecue for tri-tip, and corn on the cob.

I ran across some images of rooms that reminded me of summer so I thought I would have a little fun, and pair them with outfits/accessories suitable for summer.

For your viewing pleasure:

The cool feel of softly colored blue glass with the fresh green of ferns

BRIGHTLY COLORED STRIPES ON A BACKGROUND OF WHITE.

PRETTY BLUES WITH TOUCHES OF PINK

The cool feel of turquoise and navy stripes….

Last but not least…..

All white beach inspired room

I am wishing you all a wonderful relaxing Memorial Day Weekend!!

Organizing Jewelry Is Like Playing Dress Up!

As we grow up I think sometimes it seems like, "All work and no play!" I decided to incorporate a little play in my work by playing dress up as I worked yesterday!

I spent a great deal of time organizing all of my costume jewelry.

I had so much fun re-visiting all my little pretties it really felt like playing dress-up, trying on different pieces I had forgotten about.

Little girls never grow up when it comes to sparkly things, or I should say this gal has never grown up on that count!

I started my process by laying  my costume necklaces in categories on my bed……….

CATEGORIES

Multi-colored beads
Turquoise/Blue necklaces
Pearls(my biggest category)
Gold chains
Silver necklaces
Ethnic style necklaces

Once I had everything out on my bed I then looked at the categories, and decided which pieces I would wear on a daily basis…………..

I hung my necklaces on hooks that are below a mirror in my closet.

PERSONALITY PROBLEM RESOLVED

Remember I am the girl that does not like too much visual clutter. This becomes a push and pull fight in my brain. I finally succumbed realizing I truly don’t wear it if I don’t see it! Sometimes we even have to make compromises with ourselves.

Next

Next came the bracelets/bangles! I don’t have the perfect resolution for displaying my bangles. Shall we say, we are still in process on this matter.

ORGANIZE BY COLOR

Red, white & blue
Green
Pearl
Black
Gold
Silver
Neutrals (tortoise, wood)
Rhinestones

For now they are hanging on my wall shoe rack. It actually works really well, but I am afraid I might need the space for my summer sandals so this will probably be changing……..

EARRINGS

I have organized my earrings the same way for years.

It has proven to be the best way for me to see what I have, and also it makes it so much easier when getting dressed for a special occasion……

……I use clear divided boxes that are sold for embroidery threads. (See today's sidenotes on my sidebar.)

This has worked well for me for as long as I can remember. It is so convenient to just pull out the box of items that will work well with my outfit.

I still have more to do in my closet, but I am making some good progress!!

Next: Summer shoes and sandals will be coming out of their boxes and replaced with my winter shoes.
