15 Ways To Add Fall To YOUR Home Without Orange

Fall decorating can be hard for a Springtime gal like myself. In years past I have developed a decorating plan that seems to work for me.

It all started with a list!!! I made a list of elements that evoked a Fall look that I do enjoy……..

Wooden bowls

Wooden turned candlesticks

Wooden cutting boards

Pomegranates with their wonderful pinky red color

Eucalyptus wreaths or leaves for the soft green

Cream or basil colored candles

Crisp red and green apples

Brass candlesticks that glow

Pumpkins and gourds in white and greens

Mums in white, purples and golden yellow

 Baskets

Bakelite silverware

Lanterns

Nuts and acorns

Branches in vases

By having this list on hand it makes it easier for me to change my décor to a more Fall-like look.

You will notice that in my list there are no russets, or oranges!

So you see it is possible to decorate for Fall without using any of the colors in the orange family!!

Do you like to us traditional autumnal colors, or are you like me?

Since most of my decor is in pastels, I've always had a tough time around fall and Christmas. Your post gave me many ideas! Thanks!

Great post, KS! I really needed to see this. My computer is not working at the moment so I haven't had a chance to blog, but I've done a few things around my house for fall. Mostly I've just muted the colors used in my living and dining room. I did want to add a few fall touches here and there and you my dear have just inspired me!

Btw, I read your posts from Paris! How romantic that your husband asked you to marry him again!!!!!! Lucky you!

I am more like you on this. I don't decorate for the holidays anymore other than Christmas, but there are other ways to celebrate the seasons. Great examples- I love them all, especially seasonal fruit and flowers.
Have a great weekend KathySue

Love all your cozy fall examples. I too can't bring too much orange in my home for fall. I especially can't do all the Halloween decor. Bah Humbug! haha! Love white pumpkins and gourds. Branches, white mums and apples. Love this time of year!

Kathysue I like very much your seasonal decorating theme even though I love autumn so much! I also love the scents like cinnamon apples, gingered pears, vanilla spice.

I do hope you will enter the last weekend of my Giveaway of Velvet Pumpkins from Love Feast!

I like russets and some orange, but I do like to bring in wooden items during the fall. Rustic, earthy details, acorns, nuts, white pumpkins, etc. Fall is my favorite season........Sarah

I've always loved autumnal colors so it's not an issue for me, but I love your suggestions for those who crave pastels or spring/summer color palettes. Natural elements would be my first choice in a home with the spring-like green/blue color palette that you love so much. I especially love the image you showed of the bowl with candles and and greenery-I could picture that fitting in perfectly in your kitchen or as a centerpiece in your dining room.

Agree 100%! Don't like using orange for fall or red for Christmas. Love all the images in your post...perfect for fall!

And can I just say how much I love your white tile kitchen! I've never liked granite...ever. Nice to find someone else who appreciates the beauty and freshness of clean white tile!

Love this!! I am like you not a big fan of orange for decor.....in fact even my mini tiny ghourds for my big kitchen bowl that were bright orange were making me a bit nuts so they went to a corner bowl in the family room where I wouldnt' have to stare at them all day long....lol. Can you relate? Give me all the colors above shown anyday!

You know I agree...muted colors.....of course I left my green...no since reinventing the wheel.....! I had to pin a few of these cause I have the rest of the family room and kitchen to do :)

Once again, you inspire. For many years I did not like anything to do with orange. However, once I was told by someone I admire, in terms of color, that it was important to use all colors as accents now and then. It's all about tones. OK, it's an opinion, but I like a good challenge. So, I started with apricot and gradually grew to like it and I've stretched a bit beyond that with accents. It's so difficult to stretch the brain. (Soft Surroundings has a beautiful apricot cashmere pea coat now. Awesome.) Then there is the color purple. That's my challenge. About the only thing I do with purple is live lavender blossoms! :) Trying to live and learn. Maybe this spring, Springtime Kathysue! Maybe apricot and lavender!!! Thanks for always inspiring and keeping us ever-thinking. Color is so perfect and so complicated.

Have to agree with the no orange- I did put some beautiful pumpkins with oranges/ plum browns on the porch with the right settings- however, with a slight farmhouse look, and washed surfaces mixed with slipcovered chairs etc, the thought of orange did me in... So, I used a single unfinished ( cream ) pumpkin in the center of a beautiful silver tray. Underneath a bit of lace peeking out.. It is very simple, reminds me of Fall and doesn't take away from the serene surroundings.
Thanks for the "orange-less" fall ideas..

The berries on the branches in the last photo are orange. Love all your ideas. Pretty.

Yes, all these evoke fall. I found a bakelite knife on our trip, too.

Carol jane, Good point being a mixture of reds and yellows does come off orange!! Ooops I like to see more red not the orange! lol Thanks for pointing that out!!
