It's Time To Make Your Thanksgiving Day Menu!!


Yes it is that time again and today was the day I planned my Thanksgiving dinner. 

If you are like me you have been doing Thanksgiving dinners for what seems like forever. 

We all have a method that seems to work for us. Over the years I have learned a few things that make my day a bit easier.

I just read two blog post that I found very helpful, and even had a couple of ideas I have not done in the past that I will use this year. 

I could write a how-to post, but to be honest I think these two blog post will really be helpful to the novice or the veteran Thanksgiving day planner.

The first article is for the novice, but trust me it is still good to read, it reminded me that I need carrots on my grocery list. We are never too old to be reminded or learn new things.

This was a great article with pictures to show you just what to do!!

This next article has some wonderful tips on how to make your Thanksgiving day a little easier and smooth running. I found it very helpful. 

A lot of what was written about I already do, but there were a couple of things I have not done in the past. Like making my gravy ahead of time and freezing it. 

Gravy takes for ever to make and it is the last thing I do so this will be a HUGE time saver for me. Lots of good reminders in this article.

I am also going to get out my cooler and empty out my refrigerator so I have plenty of room.

Of course you will have to plan your own menu and design your own table, but getting the logistics down is more than half the battle.

I remember one Thanksgiving when I made a few new side dishes instead of my standard ones. The family has never gotten over it! Lol
And now I'm reminded every year to not do that again.

I have been fortunate that with the exception of a few years, I either went to our parents or my sister's for Thanksgiving...therefore, I have been a "helper" rather than a planner....these are great tips...and love that veggie dish!

Although we don't do Thanksgiving in Australia, we do have Turkey with stuffing and all the trimmings for Christmas.
As a child, each year we would use make two stuffings, our usual and a new one from the latest magazine. After many years the family decided that our original was the absolute best and it is now the only one that we make.
For those who might like to try our one as a new one, and it is so fresh and delicious it is:
6 oz fresh breadcrumbs
12-15 stoned and chopped prunes
2 large grated green apples like Granny Smith
2 oz chopped nuts - I use hazelnuts
grated zest and juice of lemon
1 egg beaten
2 oz melted butter
salt and pepper
Just combine all of this in a bowl and it is ready to stuff into the turkey cavity and neck. This can be made the night before but don't stuff the turkey until you are ready to cook it as a pre stuffed turkey can build up bacteria.
Australians don't tend to bake the stuffing in a separate dish, we usually stuff it up the bird, but you could do it in a baking dish. I would also dot it with butter if I did it that way.
