Anatomy Of A THANKSGIVING Table

In my last blog post I showed you all my last three years Thanksgiving tables.

Little did I know that writing that post would get me to take out my pencil and paper and start making notes on what I would like for my very own table this year.

Trust me this is not a technical, or a particularly artistic way to do things, but it works for me.

Thanksgiving plans 003 (800x600)
I use my loyal 3X5 index cards, and scribble my notes when they pop into my head.

I do a stick figure drawing(I use the word drawing loosely). I take measurements, write down the cost factors, and then I let the idea marinate in my little brain!!

See I wasn’t kidding!! It just works for me!!

My inspiration actually started with an image that I saw a year ago. I knew I would use it in my home someday………

The warm glow of the white lanterns next to the cluster of the pumpkins just spoke to me. So, this is where I started.

From this point I decided I would use the natural linen tablecloth that I already have. That gave me a color scheme to work off of……

BASE COLORS:
Linen and White

ACCENTS:
BRIGHT MOSS GREEN AND DARK BROWN

OR
CREAM AND MAIZE

When it comes to the elements I like to keep it more limited. I find that if you use too many elements it  will tend to make the eye jump around, and creates a busy feel.

Let me show you some of the images that have inspired me……..

My friend Melinda from Georgia Pond designed these place cards. You can go Here to her blog to see more of her creativity.

ELEMENTS:
Lanterns with cream pillar candles
White pumpkins
Wheat

I have already found the lanterns that I want to use at Ikea

It comes in two sizes and I will be getting some of both.

It is called the Borby Lantern. If you go back to the top you can see my little sketch, and measurements that I wrote down to figure out how many I will be using.

I have the beginnings of my Thanksgiving table and the only big purchase will be the lanterns. I can justify that purchase because I will be using these in my design for my Christmas mantel also!!

I hope this little post showed you all how my mind works and maybe inspires you a little bit!

I love the green colour way you have and the lanterns will look very fresh against the green and natural base. Your creative process is very clever Kathysue. The picture below the "cream and maze" has been in my files for quite awhile...love that one. Love the lanterns too...I'm sure your table will be gorgeous.

I love that you included my little wheat placecards in this, they look lovely. I also did a huge centrepiece made of wheat which looked great too.

I also would keep the table deco simple and elegant. I like the place card and some candles in between , in the middle of the table a small fruit or vegi deco would be great.

I do the same thing only in a notebook. I scrawl down ideas and do little sketches whenever an idea comes to me. As I write the posts I tear our the pages.

I love your inspiration photos for your Thanksgiving table - the burlap, white pumpkin, lantern idea is going to look amazing. It reminded me of a WISH Wednesday post I did. You should click through to the link at Style at Home as there are lots more photos that I think you will like.
