Embracing Fall!!

My last post was on what I will miss about summer. I listed what I would miss, but I am a believer of embracing each new day as well as each new season. With the changing of the seasons there always seems to bring on a new feeling of anticipation what is ahead of us.
.

When I think of fall I am reminded of how the air changes to a fresh crispness that let’s you know changes are about to take place. From my kitchen window I have a view of a maple tree. I begin to notice the change in it’s color and how the leaves slowly drift to the ground below.

I like to switch things up a bit in my home for the upcoming fall. I find that I gravitate toward a warmer and cozier feel. I have had many of my clients ask me, “When exactly do you start changing to your Fall look?” I had to stop and think about that one. I decided to observe my personal behavior to get a clue to when I feel the need to change things out.

What I noticed was the first thing I start doing is pulling out more votive candles at night. It almost becomes somewhat of a candle lighting ceremony. I happily go throughout my living area humming and lighting my votives displayed on my mantel. I finally correlated it with the start of football season. From that point on I slowly start bringing in more of my black accessories, throws and candles.

I have a friend that actually does her changes by the calendar. She makes sure her Fall changes are done for the first official day of Fall (it is Friday Sept. 23rd)!! She is highly organized and is more of rule follower than myself. I just go with my feelings!!
When do you feel the urge to bring in the warmth and comfort to your own home?  What are the signs that make you start making your own changes in your home?
Whenever you decide to start to make your Fall transformation, remember………..

Embracing all that Fall has to offer!

Though I love the care free long days of summer, I LOVE the crisp fall weather, comfort foods that I give myself permission to indluge in and beautiful clothes that come with fall. I llove lighting candles too and tend to more in the cold months. I think Iam going to have to make that second picture my new screensaver, too gorgeous!
PS Congrats on winning the books, I posted it yesterday as did Kate that you are the winner...hopefully you know this by now? Please forward your shipping details. Enjoy!

Kathysue, Fall is my favorite time of year. The light changes and the scent of the air is amazing. The colors are delightful and most of all, especially after this particularly long hot Summer, in St Louis, I am welcoming the most delightful temperatures.

I am just beginning to truly enjoy the end of Summer outdoors. The heat and humidity has been pretty bad and the gardens have suffered.

I love all the seasons. However, believe it or not, Summer is my least favorite. I even enjoy our cold and snowy Winter more than I do Summer.:-) Perhaps it is my age. I used to like Summer more than I do now.

lovely photos Kathysue. I usually start pulling out my fall decor the day after labor Day- b/c we live in Texas we dont really have much of a fall-so I have to make my own! But this year Im going with less- gone are the days I pull out 8 boxes of Fall decor- Im brining in more natural elements from the yard and yes- candles! lots of candles!

I let nature initiate any changes; I will naturally gravitate to homemade chicken noodle soup and cozy throws as the days get cooler and shorter. As far as decor changes, I pretty much stay with my core base and move in cozy items, like soft throws and fall/winter colors for table-runners, placemats, etc. I tend to listen to more music in Fall and Winter and enjoy cooking even more.

When the weather is right to make a fire in the fireplace or a bonfire outdoors, that's when I start to putter around the house, changing out summer to fall.

Love the pictures you posted!!

For me the fun is all about tuning in to organic time: freshness in the air, the changes in the light, the first whiff of woodsmoke from my neighbour's fire (she's early!)

Your pictures made me smile and dream. I love FALL...especially this year after a brutal summer. Now our state is on fire, because we have had no rain for so long. SO, I look for fall inspiration whereever possible and dream of cool breezes and rain clouds to come!

*** "FALL" is T*H*E time for THIS gal to get E*X*C*I*T*E*D Kathysue, because it means "OUR" SUMMER IS O*V*E*R here in the desert, and "LIFE BEGINS AGAIN N THE FALL!" (for ME, at least!), with the return of FAB, TOP-DOWN weather, and all that comes WITH it, til NEXT summer!!! (That TOP-DOWN refers to the CAR, not ME... OMG what a scary sight THAT would be!!!)...

PRETTTTTY PICS, girlfriend!!!

Warmest,

Fall in southern california is subtle but I can smell it in the air. I dont set Halloween items out until Octo 1st but start changing out pillows, candles, pictures etc after the labor day weekend.

BTW...can I live in that photo with the red barn, lake and green grass?

Kathysue-
I am so excited about Fall being near! Fall is my favorite season, winter next, spring, and then the dreaded summer.
These images make this all seem near. Just gorgeous and warm.
I hope that you are having a great evening.

I usually go by the first subtle changes in weather, the shortened days, the turning and falling of the leaves. We've had such incredibly hot weather that I'm ready for fall weather. Nice post!

For me, it's usually when I see the leaves start to change or the first hint of crisp air. xo
