What do you think about this wall treatment?

In a previous post I talked about one of the changes I was thinking about making was changing my existing entry hall wallpaper. I have had this paper up for at least 15 yrs. I think it is a vintage classic and the colors are perfect for my  home. It is an English wallpaper with sage, cream and watermelon pink.
My favorite things 005 (800x600)
When I did the post mentioning that I was thinking about changing the wallpaper some of my readers wanted to know what I had in mind.

I have to be honest I really did not have anything in mind. I just knew I wanted to make a change. Do you ever do that? Now be honest, I know we creative types are always thinking of changes we can make!

Since several asked, it made me think more seriously about the idea of change. About 10 years ago I thought about changing the wallpaper and I even ordered two samples of what I had in mind. I did not go forward with the idea and I don’t even remember why.

I remembered looking in a Classic Thibaut wallpaper book and loving two possibilities for my entry. I just knew they would not still be in print, but maybe Thibaut had something similar.

To my surprise they actually still make the two possibilities. They are classic so I guess that is why they are still making them.

I talked to my good friend Sally J. at Divine Distractions blog about what I had in mind and she offered to order me two samples. Sally is a talented designer in the Dallas, Texas area with her own design business. Her blog is full of inspiration and her wonderful sense of humor and design. Be sure to go and visit. Her blog is one of my daily reads.
I know, I know you want to see what I have in mind. Well, here you go!!

I would like to use a wall mural in my entry. What do you think?
I love the classic look of both of these murals and they are the perfect size for above the wainscoting in my entry.

So what do you think? Which one do you like? I am open for any other suggestions if any of you know of another mural that would work in my space. Let me know what you think???

Hi Kathysue...

My friend, you know that I just adore your home and that gorgeous entryway! I really like the wallpaper that you presently have up, however I do understand the need for a change! Hehe! You know, I think your entryway is perfect for a mural! I vote for "Memory Lane"...I love the subject and the colors are gorgeous! Love the greens but that creamy colored sky just "sings" to me! Well sweet lady, I wish you the best in your design decision...whatever you decide...I know it will be gorgeous!!! Have fun, my friend!

Warmest wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design

I hate wallpaper because it is a mess to take down. If you want a mural, look into having someone do one just for you from an old photo that has some memories. It would be more enjoyable to look at something that invokes fond memories that just mass produced. Kathy

If you must change that lovely wallpaper then I'd say either one would look great.
Your entryway is so pretty.

Kathysue, I surely understand about change since I do that a lot. I love the wallpaper you have now, a mural would look nice too. I like the more casual look of the second one. I know whatever you do to that wall will look great.

Well, I was going to say don't touch that lovely paper till I saw your choices- love them both! Did I ever tell you I have a secret love of wallpaper (scret because my husband hates it!)

They are both beautiful, but my favorite is memory lane. What will you do with the mirror and sconces? Or do you plan on anything on the wall? You always do such wonderful things, I can't wait to see it. Hugs, Marty

I haven't followed up with you, but did those samples arrive? Let me know, and I'll check on it. Its' a great wall for a mural, and I'm liking "Memory Lane" for you...a little more familiar and less formal. I'd love to see it up!
Have a great weekend, my friends. I'm back at the painting!

Well now, Miss Kathysue (said in my Southern accent) you know I just love Magnolia Hill! I think it is your secret Southern roots calling you! If you look inside the old plantation house, they are sitting around the dining room table having shrimp and grits and iced tea! lol I love the Spanish moss hanging from the trees! No kidding...it's my fav. Hope you are having a great weekend!...hugs...Debbie

Oh my...I am not the right person to ask about this one. I like the Magnolia Hill design the best...but after many years of using wallpaper, I've become anti-wallpaper and even when I did use it, I was pretty subtle in my choices. So, while I know a mural will be outstanding in your home, it is way out of my comfort zone.

I ditto Deb's choice. I didn't even have to look at it, the name chose for me :) Seriously, I love what you have now, but I certainly understand the need for change. And your entry is so lovely. I think a mural would be beautiful with the light spilling in from the doorway. I love wallpaper (in other people's home) but have been threatened with unimaginable punishment if I ever so much as think about using it again LOL. Hugs, Kat

Good morning!
I fell in love with
wallpaper murals
while visiting
Natchez in April
with my mom....
Can you imagine,
Zuber of France
is still making
the same murals
that they did
during the antebellum
years??? I am
probably partial
to Magnolia Hall
because of my
three trips to
the South this
year; I also love
the colors! Can't
wait to see what
you choose!
xx Suzanne
PS: I love Sally's
blog, too.

Oh Kathysue! I love both choices and the current paper! You sure know how to make a girl think! Hhhhmmmm! I think my favorite is the second mural! I know whatever you choose will be perfect!

I have Thibault wallpaper in my dining room and I love it! I am looking to add some in my guest bath...the paper in there now is hideous...I think I had a brain cramp when I chose it;)!

Can't wait to see what you decide!

Enjoy!

Hi Kathysue

I love the idea of a mural and I would choose Memory Lane. I think the brown of the tree trunks weights it down a bit which is needed because of all the black in the floor. Cant wait to see the finished product.

Although I love the paper you have up now, if you make the change, I think either stays true to the spirit of your home which is the most important! Keep us posted!

Go for one of the Thiabuat papers...they would be a wonderful fit above your chair rail and would give a scenic delight to the space.
