I am somewhat of a neat and tidy girl. I think that is what I love about boxwoods. They are so perfectly trimmed and all lined up like little soldiers. I love symmetry and they are often used in pairs. They just fit the bill for me.
There is nothing prettier to me than a well trimmed lawn with a walkway bordered by boxwood. They look clean and fresh.
I think even two on the side of the door makes for a beautiful entry.
There are so many uses for boxwoods, some simple and some elaborate.
This is one of my all time favorite entries. I would have the door painted high gloss black and a black and white striped rug. The containers for the boxwood would be white. You know me with my black and white, I have to have it!!!
Some are simple.......
Some are elaborate...........
This planter is bordered by boxwood, it looks as if it is ready for new plantings.
This is such a clever use of boxwood. Obviously this bench was constructed to accomodate the boxwood. Something to think about!
Another use of boxwood with benches.
Do you all love boxwoods as much as I do? Where do you have your boxwood planted?

Using boxwoods in fun and unusual ways in your garden.

Hi Kathysue,
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos, all so neat and pretty.
I love boxwoods too but I'm sorry to say that I don't have any. Maybe I had better plant some.
hugs
Sissie
What beautiful images, I suddenly have an urge to hit my backyard and make room for some boxwoods.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE boxwoods. They are fabulous to work with in landscaping. I have them at both homes and they are used in different ways. Our East I'm adding more this summer for the children's garden! I adore the home and the boxwoods in the second image...looks like the perfect little place!
ReplyDeleteOne of the most memorable home tours I ever attended, was in Hermann Missouri, during the 1970's. All antique homes lovingly restored in and around this beautiful little German town in Missouri wine country. One home in particular, I remember, because it had the most gorgeous boxwood gardens.
ReplyDeleteWhen we built our present home we planted several boxwoods. Absolutely love them. Our largest are in the dining room garden, with holly and gold flame spirea. That garden is a tad more manicured than some of our other gardens.
We tend to like a wild sort of look for our gardens. I was walking down by the creek this morning getting photos of honeysuckle and a few iris that are just now beginning to bloom. These are hybrids...blooming behind the old fashioned iris of a few weeks ago.
Mother's Day weekend was spent in and around our gardens. That weekend is a traditional gardening weekend for us, as the danger of frost is past and it's just a wonderful thing that I enjoy for Mother's Day. I am sure J will be working in the gardens, if not fishing at the lake, when Father's Day rolls around.:-)
Love this post because I never met a boxwood I didn't love. I love their perfect and crisp lines, how manicured they are and how symmetrical we can make them. They are so neat looking in a yard, on hedges or in planters. I LOVE boxwoods! This post does a great job to pay homage to them!
ReplyDeleteI never really gave much thought to baxwoods! You really find the coolest things to discuss! Now I want 2 planted boxwoods in my front yard!
ReplyDeleteYes, I absolutely adore boxwoods - and yew as well. We have many boxwoods in our yard - they are wonderful, as you show, for adding structure and a green element of architecture in the garden.
ReplyDeleteOh yes me too, I love boxwoods.
ReplyDeleteI especially love the first image as it gives me hope that one day my hydrangeas will pop above my boxwood hedges like those :)
I think this might even be the year!!!
Hope you and your lovely mother had a wonderful Mother's Day!
Miss you....
Lovely photos! Unfortunately our boxwoods are completely deer ravaged, so they look rather sad and brown right now. They always bounce back, though. We could burlap them each year, but we quite like seeing the deer in our yard in winter, and the natural pruning means that we never have to drag out the hedge trimmer.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the boxwood bench back! So clever! Thanks for sharing.
I love those photos! I adore boxwoods on either side of a front door. Such a lovely entryway!
ReplyDeleteI have boxwoods lining the walkway to the house and up the stairs on our millstone terrace - I, too, love them clipped and clean and standing in a row! That bench with the boxwood back is fabulous!

I love the bench!! How cute is that! I'm a little more random than most boxwoods would allow, but they make a wonderful addition to any entry. Low maintenance too! That I like!
ReplyDeleteI use them for structure all over my garden. I trimmed three of them yesterday and they are a very sorry sight ( It was a hard trim). But they will soon recover and look great.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding?! I LOVE boxwood. I have hedges leading up to my front door and other in pots. A favorite here!
ReplyDeleteThe tidy little hedges around a bunch of wild roses or a maze pattern so timeless...I used to live on an old farm with 100 year old box woods cut in all kinds of patterns and shapes. Such a nice old European feel...
ReplyDeleteI love them in juxtaposition to some wilder plantings, like lavendar or salvia. The bench is so sweet with it's pillows.
ReplyDeleteI love boxwoods but sadly, can'[t grow them in all this shade. I love the look of a real manicured garden space, which I truly do NOT have:) Thanks for stopping by and the nice comments! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI'm such a fan...my yard is full of English boxwoods...love the look and the wonderful smell!!
