I had fun doing a post on thrifting so I thought I would do one on the black and white treasures that I have found. Black and white are a staple in my decorating arsenal so when I find something in either one of these colors I am drawn to it. The first item I found was from Goodwill or GW’s website and I actually bid on it. They run it just like e-bay but you have to be careful because their shipping cost are really pretty high so it has to be worth it to you to bid on something.
These came in a pair and you know how unusual it is to find glass items in good condition in pairs. These are actually the deepest darkest purple but they totally read as black. They look amazing with pink flowers in them or just plain white roses. These now reside in my kitchen glass front cupboard.
The sugar and creamer were actually a gift from my dear friend Deb of Confessions Of A Plate Addict. I found the matching covered dish that I use for Equal on one of my thrifting escapades. I love the little white balls and the embossed grape pattern. These sit by my coffee pot and they add a freshness to that area.
I have a pair of these found at an garage sale. I think they are 1940’s vintage because of the shape.
I found these gorgeous Wedgwood dishes at GW’s. I must admit I did a happy dance and started piling them in my little basket. I got eight plates, nine soup bowls, eight dessert plates, six salad plates. They were all $1.99 each. I could not believe it. I used these for my Thanksgiving table last year and they are in my cupboard for every day use along with my other white dishes. This is when treasure hunting pays off!!!
These last two white items I had in my previous post on thrifting but since they are white I thought I would add them to this post. When you go thrifting what colors are you drawn too?

ReplyDeleteGreat finds, Kathysue. And I do love all of your black & white. So timeless and so current, too!
ReplyDeleteI love the glass "trophy" vessels. You are a really fantastic bargin hunter! And, I had no idea GW had a web site for bidding.
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that if you ever hold a tag sale...people will line up for blocks!!!
I like the way the black pieces pop against the white in your cabinet.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about pairs being hard to come by. A while back I spotted two black urns together at an antique store. They would have been $80 for the pair, but they would have been perfect for my dining room. When I went back they were gone.
Wow great finds! I just love thrifting, you never know what you will find!
ReplyDeleteSuch great things...my favorite, the Wedgewood...love that!
ReplyDeleteYou found so many great things. Love that Wedgwood.

Love your finds, Kathysue. Those vases really do look black especially on the computer screen. Love your vignettes and what beautiful Wedgwood. Been missing you at my blog and I have a giveaway going on for Lisa Leonard jewelry.
ReplyDeleteI love the black urns in particular! They look fantastic in your cabinets.
ReplyDeleteLove the black and white post. Why are we so drawn to black and white? I, like you, love anything black and white, especially with checks. The combo of your marble, toile and faucet handles in your guest bath is delightful.
ReplyDeleteBTW...the last post from "Rick" posted in error since I am on my husbands computer. My address and website is diane.onlinefabricstore@gmail.com. Please vist and link to my fabric site and accompanying blog at www.onlinefabricstore.com sorry for the goof...technology seems to get me every time!

Right now, I'm on the
ReplyDeletelook-out for pewter or
silver items and also
blue and white or just
white or cream. Not
exactly a narrow focus,
I know! I can't wait
to check out the GW
website; I'd planned
to do it a while back,
but forgot. YOU certainly
have an eye for value ~
beautiful AND a bargain!
Love the trophy vessels!
xx Suzanne
I had no idea that the Goodwill had a website!
ReplyDeleteI stopped in a GW on Sat. in Livermore and was totally shocked at how high the prices were. The guy there told me that things come priced from the distribution center in Oakland.
I much prefer The Salvation Army.
Of course I love your finds and you are a great bargain huntress!!! Your vase misses you :)

Thank you for your sweet comment about my kayaking post!
Kat :)
Great finds! Can you believe as much as I love Goodwill that I've never tried shopping online from there? I'm probably too cheap to pay S&H anyway :)
