Laundry Room Ideas!

I haven’t written a laundry room post in a very long time. Lately I have been seeing more small laundry rooms pinned on pinterest that have caught my eye.

If you are lucky enough to have a laundry room maybe this post will give you some ideas.

What a great use of space. You will notice there are sliding doors that go into the side of the appliances.

When you are done with the laundry everything can be hidden behind doors.

Don’t you love the pull-out hamper baskets? I really think this a great use of space.

Even if you only have a closet sized laundry room you can have all that you need if you plan it well.

The back splash is what caught my eye. I want something like this in my laundry room.

This is a much larger laundry room with great storage, love how the washer and dryer are concealed.

This image is a look that I truly love for a laundry room. Clean and sleek!

Again, I am in love with the stainless back splash. I also love the garage door style frosted glass cabinets.

All I can say is this is just pretty!

Another great use of space. I use laundry baskets for my dirty clothes, we have them separated by whites, lights, darks, towels.

I only have room for two shelves, but I would like to have all four baskets on a shelf.

Here is my make-do, make-shift shelf made out of a Johnny pole for the bathroom. We just added a wire shelf on the very bottom to hold a basket.

More white stacked towels, these are my rags. I also love a good stack of white toilet paper. Yes, I am weird like that!!!

Last year we did a mini-makeover and we painted the room a pale blue, and added a new utility light in brushed stainless.

I also wanted to put my laundry detergent, softener etc. in some fun containers so I came up with this…….

All my cleaning supplies are in the blue and white striped baskets. The little white dish on top of the dryer is holding my dryer sheets.

I use a liquid detergent so a big drink container was the perfect solution for me. Almost like a beverage bar in the laundry room…..

My laundry room is very small as you can tell. That doesn’t mean it can’t be fun and functional at the same time.

Next on the agenda is more storage, and if I am lucky maybe a cool stainless backsplash!!

It doesn’t have to be big and full of cupboards to  look good, and be functional.

I hope you found some inspiration here today!

FAMILY ROOM UPDATE!

We are moving right along, and making some new progress in the family room.

Last time I posted about the family room I showed my new ligting sconces designed by Mary McDonald.

I left a comment on her FB page, and told her how much I loved her sconces that I got from Lamps Plus, designed by her, and she commented on how much she loved the final results in my room. Can you believe she took the time to do that?

OKAY THIS GIRL IS A LITTLE STAR-STRUCK!

I LOVE Mary McDonald’s designs, and after watching her on Million Dollar Decorator, I am convinced we would become fast and furious friends. Shopping and doing lunch would be perfect with Mary.

So Mary if you are reading this let me know if you ever want to do lunch?

I am sorry I digress. Let me show you my sconces and my Winter pillows that are in the white chairs.

Here are the fabrics that I am using for my winter look….

I am not sure if you remember my Spring/Summer fabrics so I thought I would show you those too…..

The fabric on the top left is Carnival/green by Christopher Farr linen.

I got my custom pillows this last Friday. I had them made into 22in. pillows, the cord welting is in the bright green in a linen.

I love my pillows so much, they were just the right touch of whimsy and sophistication the room needed…..

You are also seeing the new white Atoll mirrors from Ballard that I ordered.

I think the mirrors add just another touch of whimsy to the room. They almost look like a clam shell with all their grooves around the edges.

The white paint and distressing was not quite right for me so I got out the paint brush(which never happens and added two coats of my trim color.)

You can see the white paint, swiss coffee on the left, and the original gray based white with distressing on the right.

I am liking the new more finished look on the mirrors.

Oh there is one more thing taking place!

Here is a little sneak peek….

SIMPLE ELEGANCE

When you read my blog you will often read the word, simple, or simplicity describing a look, or feel of a room that I admire.

If I had to zero in on one look that I enjoy it would be understated, or simple elegance.

Design is subjective and what is simple to one, might be too complicated to another.

Today I want to share with you what I feel is Simple Elegance and how I define it…..

Nothing overstated here, classic pieces in a simple setting, Simple elegance.

Clean lines, neutrals, nice textural interest. Simple yet quietly elegant.

Strong , distinct contrast with the black and white as well as the more contemporary settee with the traditional wallpaper, and chandelier. Not overstated, just simply elegant.

I love every single element in this space. Each piece speaks equally in this room.

There is balance, a nice mix of colors and textures. Wonderful contrast in the styles of furniture and the sconces and the chandelier. This room is quiet and simply elegant.

This is one of my all time favorite rooms. It has some very traditional pieces, symmetry, texture, contrast with dark and light. This room exudes simple elegance to me.

A few of the buzz words I used in writing this post that seem to be what makes a room feel simply elegant to me are:

  • CLASSIC LINES
  • TRADITIONAL AND CLASSIC PIECES
  • TEXTURAL INTEREST
  • SYMMETRY
  • CLEAN LINES
  • HIGH CONTRAST IN COLOR, LIGHTS AND DARKS
  • BALANCE
  • CONTRAST IN STYLES OF PIECES IN THE ROOM
Is Simple Elegance a style that you enjoy and try to achieve in your own surroundings?
