What Is The **STAR** In Your Room?

There are so many details, and layers to consider when you are designing a room.

Something I have noticed when guiding clients, and even in my own life is it is hard to not get caught up in making every detail a star!

What do I mean by that? When we get to re-do a room, and finally get to add some new details to our home it is hard to use restraint, and realize that not everything has to be the newest trend, or to be the star in the room. 

In fact it is better to have one, or two leading actors, and the rest of the elements need to be supporting cast members.

There needs to be an easy flow to a room. You do not want your eye jumping from one element to the next.

When I am talking about the star, I am not necessarily meaning the focal point of a room. No, I mean something that almost shouts out, “look at me!”

It could be a piece of furniture, lighting, artwork, flooring. Really just about anything.

Where we all can go wrong is when we want every element to shout, “Look at Me!”

This is a gentle reminder to you, and to myself……

Restraint in a room design is necessary,choose one or two elements that are the most important to you to be the stars in your room.

When I started formulating my ideas for my family room, I realized after studying the rooms I was attracted to that I needed to have a great piece of art in my room. 

Something that was bright, and cheerful that would grab your eye.

I realize I will have to be very careful when I add art to my room.

One of the important supporting actors was going to be the lighting in the room. Lighting is very important to me so it all has to blend well in my minds eye.

Look at a room in your home. Can you pick out the stars,do you have too many? Which pieces are your supporting actors?

These are important details to think about when you are putting together a room.

We are all going to be experiencing Spring fever very soon, and most of us will be making some changes in our homes.

I Have A Surprise For YOU, My Dear Readers!!

I have professed many times that I am a pillow addict and if you don’t believe me ask anyone who knows me well or has ever been shopping with me, they will tell you there are two things in the decorating category that I can’t refuse, pillows and lighting!!

Today I am going to talk about pillows. Pillows can make or break a room. They can add color and pattern to a neutral space or style to a generic space.

I recently have done quite a bit of fabric and pillow shopping for my family room re-do. 

In my looking I ran across Spark Modern an Etsy shop that I wound up ordering from.

The owners of this Etsy shop are Lauren and Amy!

I am a pretty picky customer, and I had several questions to ask them before placing my order. They always responded quickly, and kindly, never making me feel as if I were too picky! (trust me I know I am!)

I loved working with them so much I asked if they would like to do a giveaway on my blog.

They both agreed and offered to giveaway one square 20in.X 20in.  pillow in a wonderful fabric that will go with just about anything.

 

This fabric comes in 8 different colorways, so there is something for everyone! If I were choosing I would choose the black or indigo colorways for my home!

Quick Update On My Family Room Re-do!

 

For those of you who have asked I thought I would give you a quick update on my family room re-do.

• Sofa and ottoman are still at the upholsters

• We have the two Ikea chairs in their place

• The white Ikea Chairs are now sporting their pretty Schumacher Chenonceau green pillows.

The antique over mantel mirror has just received a haircut….

Unfortunately it had to come down in pieces.

Look Mom NO TOP!!

Not to worry, see the step ladder and the molding!!

I have my handsome handyman who just happens to live on the premises, fixing it all up for me.

Lots of discussion took place, moving things a 1/16 of an in, a 1/4in. Yes, I am that girl!! It makes a difference, trust me on this!!!
