Simplicity
in design is not always an easy thing to do well. Just because there
are usually less pieces to deal with, does not mean it is easy to achieve an interesting and cohesive design.
I often use the term, Simple-Understated-Elegance, referring to my preferred style.
Today I am taking it a step further by showing you images of rooms that I find, “Simple!” Simple, yes, but very well designed.
At
first glance you will notice there is not a lot going on in the room,
but look more closely at each, and every element, and how beautiful it
marries to all the other elements in the room, producing a simple and
cohesive design…….
SIMPLE? YES, INTERESTING? ABSOLUTELY
I noticed in studying each image that there were certain qualities that they all offered……….
- Interesting architectural details
- Varied textures
- Furniture silhouettes were varied
- Quality pieces were used, but kept to a minimum
- Patterns were kept to tone-on-tone geometric patterns
- Each piece of furniture in the room had a function
- Neutral backgrounds
Less is sometimes More!
If you would like to see more of what I think equals SIMPLICITY go…
Oh! I love the second kitchen with the beautiful antique table and chateau-like setting.
ReplyDeleteThese rooms are perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove the way textures play such an import role.
The large bedroom is so appealing!
Great Post...one of my favorites!
I have tried and tried to get this look, but I can't give up certain pieces, and I continue to add.
ReplyDeleteI love each of these room, Kathysue.

Gorgeous images. I find the tone on tone, neutrals are so calming particularly in the bedroom. I try to keep the objects/clutter to a minimum as too much makes me cranky:) I can think more clearly when things aren't too crowded. This look is tough to replicate.. especially when you've got a family:) but I think it's one that many of us strive to achieve.

You have to have a home with good bones to go simple...other wise a box type home... well... just looks like a box...you git a give it some bling!
ReplyDeleteSimple can definitely be good. I think its a matter of scale and texture that add interest to even the simplest of rooms. You have shown some beautiful examples of simple done well.
ReplyDeleteYes....I agree. Makes me want to edit just a little more around here! There is such a fine line......
