Gray
has never been a color I chose to live with other than the gray veins
in my Carrera marble floors. I know I am among the few people left in
the world that have not added the color gray to my home décor.
Well
that is about to change. Our son’s bedroom needs painting, and he has
requested GRAY!! Luckily he has very good taste and style so it is going
to be a very soft gray. The other lucky thing is he will be doing all
the painting!
I never, ever buy a gallon of paint until I have done swatches in the room. That’s’ right NEVER-EVER!!!
Color changes once it marries to the outside light streaming in a room, and to the objects in the room.
The
other thing I do is swatch on a poster board. However, Home Depot has
come up with a new-to-me swatch board that is actually contact paper you
can paint and then put on your wall for only $1.00.
Great
idea Home Depot, only a dollar plus the little pot of paint for $2.99. I
would say for 1/10th of the price of a gallon of paint that is a pretty
good deal.
The first color we chose to try was Behrs’ subtle touch……..
The actual swatch had a blue cast to it, but we thought that would work. WRONG, once we did a swatch it went towards a purple based gray.
Grays
can go blue, purple, beige, or green. Once we saw the purple hue we knew
we would need to try something more on the green side of gray so now we
are going to do a swatch of Behr’s Silver drop….
Here is a picture of some swatches that another homeowner did…….
Since we want a very subtle gray this one looks like it might do the trick.
Here it is in a room, not my room, but it gives a nice soft look to the room…..
I do love the duvet cover and shams, not the floral, and look, it even has a letter, “P” pillow, could this be a sign.
I will let you know how this color works out after we do a swatch!
As Always……
It's a nice, soothing gray. We recently painted our living room in a gray you recommended to me, Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter-we love it!
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see your room...I have never had a grey room in my own home...but wanting to paint my living room a light silver blue grey....
ReplyDeleteKathysue, you are a riot!
ReplyDeleteOur last two homes have had one shade throughout. SW Silver Strand!
Natural and artificial light creates different effects! Amazing and fantastic.
I have no gray in my house except, like you, my son's room! I painted it years ago and chose gray because the carpet was gray. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLove gray....very drawn to the color, so pretty and soothing.
ReplyDeleteI love gray but I agree---it was everywhere for awhile. Can't wait to see how it turns out. And I agree about swatching paint.
ReplyDeleteKathysue-
ReplyDeleteI learned my lesson on not using swatches years ago, and I will not paint without them now!
I love the color you have chosen.
Happy Wednesday.
