As much
as design is my first love, I think fashion might just be my second
love. Personally I love being a girl so anything to do with hair,
make-up and fashion excites me.
I
don’t claim to be on the cutting edge, nor do I have a couture
wardrobe, but I do love to look at fashion, and upcoming trends.
In
my looking I often will start to see more, and more of certain looks.
Today I thought I would share with you a few of my own personal
observations.
Nothing groundbreaking, or news worthy, just casual observations I have made along the way.
There are certain trends I will be participating in and, many more that I will not go near for one reason, or the other. Some are too youthful, and others are just strange to me.
Lets take a look at a few of my latest observations over the last few months.
Starting at the top with hair……….
The side pony
This is something for the young. I remember wearing a side pony in the 80s.
Did any of you wear your hair like this. The newer version is either done in a messy carefree look like in the above image, or a more glamorous look like this…….
Very pretty, and glamorous and if I were younger I might just go for this look for the right occasion.
BANGS
Next we have the BANGS!!! Now I have always worn bangs so they are not a new thing for me. They have been making a comeback for quite awhile now, but recently instead of gently swept to the side they are a full-on brow sweeping bang…..
This is how I like to wear my bangs. I have always said I can do my hair in two minutes flat, but it is always the bangs that take me forever to get right.
It is hard to make them look like they just were swept by a gentle breeze, a little messy, but still in place.
Even fashionista Rachel Zoe is trying them out. Rachel, you need to eat a little more sweetie!!!
Speaking of famous ladies with bangs!!
Moving down the face......
The Heavy Brow
Yes Brooke Shield called, and announced she is very happy!!(not really I just made that up)
There
is also an emphasis for the perfectly arched eyebrow and there are many
tutorials around the web to get that perfect High-brow look.
The Neon Lip
I know this look was used on the runway, but for the everyday woman, I am not liking it very much.
I tried to find an image of someone wearing this trend that I thought looked good in it, and frankly I could not find one. I think this will be worn by the very young for a very short time period.(we can only hope!)
I am not forgetting the red lip or the nude lip, but those have been around for awhile now.
I do like both of these looks. Personally I have not found a red that does not look harsh on me, and a nude lip is a bit pale for me unless it has a touch of pink/brown in it.
If any of you are looking for a good nude lip color with just a hint of color I did find one that I would like to try this one from Mac called Twig!
Moving right along……..
Around The Neck
Another 80’s trend is making a come-back, ribbons tied around the collar…….
Another place I am starting to see ribbons tied in a bow, is on hair-dos…..
The messy look gets a retro feel with a ribbon.

Omgosh I just had de ja vu!! I wore this in the 60’s.
You know what they say about trends don'tt you?…..
If you wore it the first time around, you should not be wearing it the second, or third time around.
If you wore it the first time around, you should not be wearing it the second, or third time around.
Loving this extra long chained necklace. I knew this type of necklace had a name so I looked it up and this is what I found……..
Sautoir An extremely long neck chain, which falls below the waistline and terminates with a tassel or pendant. Popular in the early 20th century .
This is a look I can definitely embrace!
Well
that is all I have for you today, but if you would like to see a few
more of my observations on what I think is trending now you can go to my
Pinterest board…
Please
feel free to leave a comment and tell me of any of your own
observations on what is on-trend, or what do you think about any or all
of the above trends!! I always love hearing from my readers!
I think in most cases that rule is true...I no longer embrace mini-skirts and I'd refuse to wear those pants with stirrups if they return. However...if they bring back bell-bottom jeans-I'm in! I am a blue jean kind of girl most of the time. I do follow trends with skinny jeans, or blinged out jeans etc., but I also think at my age it is about finding what works best for me without making me look like I'm 100 or trying to be 25!
ReplyDeleteThis is great Kathysue! The bangs are so pretty. If I had straighter hair, I'd probably have them. The side pony tail made me smile as I do recall this look during my high school years:) The neon lips..or even dark lips does not work with me. I am aware of Mac Twig and it's a wonderful color. The long necklace is so pretty. I also like to layer smaller pieces.
ReplyDeleteYou've definitely been watching some red carpets and reading Vogue, Kathysue. Sadly, we don't think we'll be sporting any of these trends except perhaps the last - call us unadventurous! Although bangs do grow out, don't they?

Kathysue,
ReplyDeleteThe one "trend" I can follow...
BANGS.
I think I was born with them.
The rest is extremely interesting!
I hate to admit this, but my favorite days are those when I don't have to "dress" or apply any makeup or fix my hair. The longer I live the more of these days there are!!!
Kathysue,
ReplyDeleteYou are too much!
I hate to admit, but my favorite days are those that I can forget about hair, make-up and worrying about what to wear.
FINALLY I am IN on one Trend.
I wear full bangs, I think I was born with them.
such a fun post! i have always worn bangs and prefer them long. the only reason mine got short in the fall was because of a disaster at the salon. read: breakage. cannot wait for them to grow out. never liked a side pony but both my sisters totally rock them. wore those neon lips in the 80s! never again! rachel is one of my favs, and we must cut her slack cuz she may have my metabolism! healthy appetite, just trouble gaining. i always feel like i have to stick up for the waif!
ReplyDeletelove to you and keep the fun fashion romps comin!
michele
That was fun to read. I just burst out laughing at those vibrant pink lips especially the one that has two different colors on at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI never heard of MAC cosmetics so now I have to go look that one up!
I'm a bang girl...always have been. I think the ponny tail to the side is pretty but definitely for a younger face! I moved to Chicago in 1978 and had the most awesome wardrobe that included these tops I got at Sax Fifth Avenue with little bow ties at the neck and shoulder pads! I was so stylin' then!!
That long chained necklace is great!
I love the image of the color-blocked lipstick, impossible in real life but fun to look at!

Well thank you for the refresher course on whats in and whats not. I remember the bangs, side ponytail, even the bow phase (though I still love bows)! The neon lipstick , no thank you. I do not normally follow trends unless it happens to be something I love and that flatters but its always such fun to see what is trending out there in our fast paced world!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the tips!! I really need help with fashion. No matter how hard I try, I feel like I don't quite get it right :-) Happy night to you!!! xo
ReplyDeleteMelissa
I love that photo of Dianna with the black bow!
ReplyDeleteI've been noticing the same trends. They do come and go for sure! As far as bangs--I've always had them, all my life! The side pony is what Ashley has been sporting lately--with purple hair!
Do we real need following trends or are they made only for the fashion shows where they look great with the right dress.? In daily life I personally found my trend which suit me and my age. But in real life there a very less women/men they can be trendy without looking quirky.
ReplyDeleteyou have such a fun and informative blog - you have a new follower :)
