Coordinating Fabrics For My Family Room

I shared with you all that I am going to be re-doing my existing family room. First on the agenda is to get the sofa re-upholstered…..

Originally I was going to have the seat changed to a bench seat. Thank goodness I asked for opinions on that post.

After reading all of your wonderful comments I realized it would not work for one very important reason.

My fabric can not be railroaded. I did not want the stripe to run horizontally on the seat so, I am back to its original style.
I have ordered lots of samples of fabrics for accent
pillows.
I am not exactly sure which combination I will be using, still working on that, but I have narrowed it down to the fabrics below........

You will notice I have Greek Key pattern in the mix I was so excited when this one sample came, because I love the Greek Key pattern. It is actually a trim and it matches the blue I am using perfectly.

I am going to use it sparingly because I don’t want it to look too contrived. It is going to be used for trim on a pillow and/or on the side hem of a white drapery panel.

I am still in the planning stages, except on the sofa, that decision has been made.
Tomorrow I will be ordering the ticking for the sofa.

I will be adding my ottoman to the order also once I figure out how I want to have it upholstered.

I have two designs in mind for the ottoman……..

I am thinking of a box pleat with contrast white cord welt  and a border in white like the one on the right.

Use a white twill tape with nail heads as pictured above.

Since you all were so helpful with my last decision, which one do you all think would be the way to go?……

  1. I like the cord welt/border idea. Your room looks so comfortable..the nail heads seem sort of "hard"....

  5. Love the fabric choices, Kathysue. In fact, I am going to put the Greek Key (in green) on a green lumbar pillow - I saw it done at Calico Corners and loved its simplicity. I hate to go against the current recommendation, but I love the nailhead trim. I have a skirted sofa (waterfall) and skirted club chairs, and I had an ottoman done completely differently. They added turned legs and 2 rows of nailhead trim. It is fabulous and can move from room to room. I know your room will be pretty whatever you choose. Linda

  6. In my humble opinion the casualness of the nailhead trim and exposed twill ribbon works better with your ticking stripe sofa. Cant wait to see the finished product.

  12. I like the nail head option, I think. Now, may I just comment on the pillow fabrics even though you didn't ask? I would like to see a combination of #'s 1 and 2. That said, you can't go wrong with any of them.

  13. Libby I love any feedback I can get. Always fun to hear what others think. Design is and will always be subjective so I never take any opinions personally. After all they are just opinions!!
    Thank you for commenting,
    xo Kathysue
PS the only fabric that is in cement is the ticking stripe for the ottoman and sofa

  16. My first time commenting here - I discovered you on Pinterest and think you are absolutely fabulous.

I prefer the box pleat - I think it makes the room look more tailored. Whichever you decide it's going to be beautiful.

  17. Nothing like a new start to the new year! I love all the details you love and just did a band of velvet on a sofa with railheads for a client and she loved it-me too!
You'll love having a neutral sofa and can keep some of the old sofa fabric for pillows?
