Graham Brown Wallpaper
We have been seeing wallpaper for quite awhile in design magazines and more and more designers are using it in their projects .
We all have a love/hate relationship with wallpaper, thanks to the horrible over-use of it in the late 80’s early 90’s!! Remember all the co-ordinates?
Why use one paper in a room when you can use three and don’t forget the border and the matching fabric, YIKES!!! No wonder wallpaper had a bad reputation. Then there is the dreaded removal process, Urrggh!
Wallpaper for 2011 is much more graphic than it’s floral frou-frou predecessors. The colors range from soft tone on tones to bright and cheerful clear colors.
I found a few examples of looks that I think are current and fun for today’s homes.
Meg Braff House Beautiful
Bright graphic floral!!
Graphic Chinoiserie
Beautiful metalic damask in panels
Over-scaled lattice pattern makes this look more current.
Thibaut Wallcovering
Imperial Trellis
Be still my heart. I love, love this entry hall!!!
Restoration Home Blog
Kelly Wearstler Imperial Trellis
Another favorite of mine.
Thibaut Wallcovering Pattern Addison
Osborne And Little
Talk about over-sized, I would say this is super-sized!!
Which one of the above pictures is your favorite? It is hard for me to just pick one!!
Do you see yourself using wallpaper in the future?
Remember never say never!!

I forgot about how often you'd see three different papers in one room in the early '90's, what were we thinking?!! I was slow to get on board this time around, but I do like the use of wallpaper in smaller doses like a single feature wall in a room with little architectural detail.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved wallpaper. Glad it's baaaack! My dining room is in a green and cream damask which I'm still loving. My favorite image is the tone on tone damask in the bathroom. You like it too! I think little powder rooms look wonderful with wallpaper. They're like little jewel boxes!
ReplyDeleteKathysue,
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm an absolute lover of wallcoverings! I think a home with a nice mix of wallcoverings and painted walls is the best! Today's wallpaper is not our grandma's wallpaper! There are so many above photos that I just adore...great round up!
I am probably one of the few but I love wallpaper and I am glad it is coming back. I think I have about 4-5 rooms in the house that has wallpaper, master bath, guest bath, dining room, foyer and wet bar...Christine
ReplyDeleteUgh, as you said we can have a love hate relationship. I just had to pay a guy to take off the wallpaper in our kitchen and 2 bathrooms of the condo we just purchased. It had the top stuff going on too! It was done around 11 years ago and was awful.
ReplyDeleteI like the lace type one in the bathroom the best in the photos above. PS at some point I should show the wallpaper we removed!
Yes, I am glad it is back too!! I can't possibly pick a favorite, so many of the styles you have posted here are fabulous! A lovely round-up indeed!! Happy Tuesday Kathysue :)

Which one of the above is my favorite....um...how about almost all of them? They are fabulous choices! I love the shimmery ones. I love wallpaper so I'm happy it's back.
ReplyDeleteI cannot pick a favorite but I do love that Graphic Chinoiserie!!! I am doing wallpaper in my kids' playroom and in my daughter's room. In both cases I am doing it on the upper third of the wall with wainscoting being installed on the lower two thirds. I also want to do grasscloth in our master....which sortof qualifies as wallpaper....
ReplyDeleteI never thought it was out, I always loved wallpaper in some rooms. Not everywhere, but it does what paint just can't always do. I love them all to tell you the truth. XO
ReplyDeleteI think I might like wall paper again. All the rooms look beautiful. I couldn't pick just one.
ReplyDeleteBeen there...done that...don't ever want to do it again! There really are some beautiful patterns aren't there? It is just such a pain when you change your mind!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, however I am going to pass. My walls are so textured that to get it into any shape to wallpaper would be a nightmare. I will just enjoy from afar. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteAll of the examples you have selected to feature on your blog are beautiful IMO. I love wallpaper!

Beautiful, Kathysue! I love the second image of the entryway with the graphic chinoiserie and the red boots!! I think I would like a wall or two in wallpaper, but maybe not a whole room. I also want to try stenciling with paint that might achieve the same look, but be easier to change down the line.
ReplyDeleteAlso wanted to tell you that I'm giving you the Stylish Blogger Award! Check out my post here http://pewterandsage.blogspot.com/2011/01/ive-never-considered-myself-stylish.html. Thanks!
I love the over-scaled lattice pattern. I have always like wallpaper but unfortunately at one time I had far too much of it...I think I have learned my lesson that the key is moderation. I know that wallpaper is once again in my future.(-:
ReplyDeleteDH and I are getting ready to celebrate 30 years of marriage. If I want to see another 30, I know not to EVER mention the words wallpaper within his hearing LOL. Our home was built in 1978, with all the decor baggage that entailed. Which meant years of removing alot of really horrid wallpaper. Which by the way was not installed properly, which meant repairing alot of drywall. I'll have to admire it from afar! Hugs, Kat
ReplyDeleteI love the look of modern graphic wallpapers :-) In fact, I hung the wallpaper in the first picture (Graham & Brown Darcy, but in Amethyst) in my guest bedroom :-) Also hung G&B wallpaper in the master bedroom.
ReplyDeleteHard to choose just one favourite from all the papers you posted. The tone-on-tone dark Imperial Trellis is great, and love the bird wallpaper in the living room, chinoiserie paper in the entry, and the super-sized paper in the last picture.
The green trellis paper in the front hall (with the bike) is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI can see myself doing wallpaper in an entry for sure. I used to wallpaper when it was 'the norm' and I've spent countless hours removing it! Now I'd like to try the "light touch," something amazing in a short space!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite? The first one (Graham Brown) for sure, but can't take my eyes off the Thibault "Addison" - Ah, with that gorgeous chair in front of it!!! And the Osborne and Little (or do I just love the way it is styled with the B&W print and bar cart?). Yes, I'm back to loving wallpaper these days albeit not quite the way it was abused in the 80's! ... I loved your examples!
ReplyDeleteLove all of these wallpaper pics! Great post. Thanks for your comment on my blog. I've seen your kitchen before, and think it is spot on with the color trends that are out there. I also think that your color choice is classic and fresh--looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteGorgeus rooms with beautiful wallpaper. . . ALMOST makes me want to have a room wallpapered, but not quite. I'll admire from afar also, I change my mind toooo much and enjoy painting a room myself when I want a change. Especially loved looking at the large scaled patterns.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathysue. I love the gorgeous collection of images you've posted. the technology behind wallpaper today has come a long way - it's easier to hang and easier to remove. I've been seeing a lot more of the wallpaper in panels look, like the metallic damask photo you posted. Gorgeous!

This is a gorgeous post - I have also been noticing lots of wallpaper in the magazines. My designer has recommended wallpaper for my house, mainly in the dining room and bathrooms - but I have held my ground and refuse to have wallpaper. I spent 13 years getting rid of wallpaper in my 80s house, and prefer other ways to bring in pattern and color!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for swinging by my blog today to comment! Wallpaper is certainly growing on me. I might just try some in my entry way. Not sure if I can get this one past the Hubs though. Thanks for sharing!
