KITCHEN UPDATE

SO CLOSE AND YET SO FAR

When I left you last we had a delay in the kitchen project due to streaking and hazing in the honing.

We had a professional marble finisher come out and look at our slabs and he said he can re-hone it for us and eliminate the problem. Whew!!

To say I was relieved is an understatement. This was my biggest concern ever since they were installed. Luckily it is all fixable, but not without yet another delay.

They will be re-honed and sealed on the 25th. We are still unable to use our kitchen since there is no sealer on the marble, but I am enjoying looking at it!! I know that sounds funny, but I really do love looking at it.

Since this project has taken three times longer than we anticipated I am going to show you pictures of what we have so far.

Yesterday I put my everyday dishes back in the upper cabinets……

I am keeping it simple in order to not detract from the new counters and back splash.

Kitchen update 001 (800x711)
I am pretty amazed at how much larger the kitchen looks to me.

Kitchen update 003 (800x600)
I am enjoying how fresh and clean it all looks.

Kitchen update 010 (800x652)
The kitchen actually sparkles with the new finishes.

Kitchen update 009 (800x592)
I am really looking forward to standing at my kitchen sink and doing dishes again. There is something just wrong on so many levels about doing dishes in the bathroom!

Kitchen update 006 (800x600)
I think I am going to find it difficult to address this corner.

I am enjoying the clean look of nothing on my counters. Putting anything on them is going to be difficult  for me.

I do have something in mind to put in the corner. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

Hopefully the next time you get a kitchen update you will be reading about me cooking and doing dishes in my new kitchen!!

How Would You Wear Lemons?

I have told you all before about my very talented DIL who has a very keen eye for styling clothes.

She and I both love fashion and design.  We have great fun discussing both subjects.

kate spade tennies
(Don’t these just make you smile?)

Recently she pinned a darling pair of Kate Spade tennies that we both agreed were adorable. So I asked her how she would style them.

You see we are never too old to learn, and she teaches me all the time when it comes to the younger way of looking at things.

She told me what she would wear with these darling tennies, and then I told her what I would wear with them.

There is never any hesitation when she is  styling something. She almost always knows exactly what she would put with something.

I see pictures of rooms in my head, and I know she see pictures of outfits in her head.

YOUNGER VERSION:

Here is what she would wear. Boyfriend jeans rolled up, a simple V-neck white t-shirt, classic jewelry and a simple navy blue bag. I love this look.

Notice it is not JUST jeans, it is boyfriend jeans rolled up. It is not just a white t-shirt, but a very specific V-neck white t-shirt.

Do you see what I am talking about?  It is all of those small nuances that make her outfit look effortless, and on trend. That is just how her brain works.

MY VERSION/OLDER!……

We both agreed on the same accessories, but I added a pop of yellow with the bamboo bangle. I also added a touch of navy with a gingham shirt. I love the gingham with the lemons on the tennies.

Mine looks more like an, “OUTFIT!”  and that is not a necessarily a good thing. I grew up in the 60's and we wore OUTFITS, matching purses, shoes and dresses.

Note to self:
Those days are gone and I need to keep that in mind when pulling my clothes together.

I like the way her ensemble is effortless, and yet it is very fashionable.

That is how the French dress, not in outfits, but in classic pieces that all just happen to go together well.

She said she would wear my outfit, but with one change..
link and white bracelet
She would add a gold and white link bracelet.

When I was putting my pieces together I looked at a plain all gold link bracelet, but it felt too heavy to me.

I knew it was not right but did NOT think of adding the white linked bracelet. She just knows instinctively.

Look how cute it looks together…

Ribbet Edit Amys rendition
I like this better than my rendition!!

I would wear either outfit. How about you?

I should have titled this post….

SPRUCING UP MY SPRING WARDROBE

When the seasons change so does my mood. With the onset of Spring I feel happy and hopeful.

I like to add a few new pieces to my wardrobe and freshen it up a bit with some fun pieces.

The most inexpensive way to do that is to get some fun new pieces of costume jewelry.

This year my  Spring wardrobe consist of combinations of white, navy, cobalt blue, bright green, yellow and a few touches of pink.

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry at one time, and keep it fairly simple and classic most of the time.

Let me show you a few of my new additions:

The top left is a  Kate Spade cobalt blue and white striped bracelet I got as a Christmas gift from my Son and DIL. They knew what this Mama would love.

Next to it you see a bright yellow enamel bamboo bangle. I purchased two of these, and plan on wearing one on each side of the cobalt striped bangle. I think that will be fun, don't you?

The bottom left is just because I have a love for letters and numbers, and this just looked like a fun piece to me.

Bottom right is a classic looking combination that I will probably wear all year long. You can never go wrong with black and gold.

I am thinking about adding this little piece to my wardrobe as well, what do you think about this?…..

Do you spruce up your wardrobe with fun costume jewelry pieces. What is one of your favorite pieces you have found?
