The Wild Side Of Fall!

 LEOPARD AND IT'S MANY LOOKS

Sometimes people think you have to be brave, or exotic to wear leopard, or to use it in your home.

They are probably not far off in that thought process, but once you wear it or use it in your home, you will be hooked.

Leopard is a staple in my Fall wardrobe, and I have also used it in my home in the past. Because it is such a statement pattern it should be used with restraint. A little of a good thing goes a looooong way!!

I am going to show you some outfits and some rooms today that I feel have used leopard in an appropriate manner.

I do have one rule when it comes to wearing it… Don’t wear matching shoes, purse or clothing item. One piece of leopard goes a long way.

ROOM TO OUTFIT

leopard pillow... Love how it ties in brass and black
One single lumbar pillow is the perfect touch in this eclectic room. Just picture the room without the leopard pillow. It doesn’t look quite as dramatic does it?
Lavender & Leopard - Polyvore - classically-preppy
Here is an outfit that uses a touch of leopard with lavender. Just a touch makes this outfit fun and current.

James Michael Howard ..."The symmetry and balance of this room are offset by the playfulness of the leopard chairs."

This room is so classic in its style and the two armless chairs add just the right amount of pattern in this room.

BLUE AND LEOPARD

Notice only one piece of leopard in her outfit. If she were to have carried a leopard bag or worn leopard shoes it would have been way to much for the outfit.

leopard as an accent in this otherwise black and white room
I adore this room except for Bambi on the wall. Mixing the leopard with the cobalt is a favorite look of mine. This room is so handsome, don’t you think?

I might have used a black and white pin stripe on the chair. A menswear suiting stripe would have been nice. The chair is just one step too far for my design aesthetics.

Leopard does not have to always be used with darker or autumnal colors it can be use in a room full of spring-like colors as pictured above. This room makes me smile.

SPRING TIME - Green stripes, a pop of pink and leopard wedges.

I love to wear leopard and also in my home with a pillow or a throw. Nothing over done, just a subtle touch here and there.

To see more uses of leopard in wardrobes, go HERE to see how I would wear it in the Fall.

I also have created a new board dedicated to LEOPARD!!

Do you have leopard in your home or wardrobe? If not I hope this has inspired you to take a leap and us a little leopard this Fall!

If you are new to leopard try a pair of shoes or a clutch. You will be amazed at how many outfits it will go with! Promise!!!

This is how I add leopard to my Fall wardrobe.....

What Do You Wear In The Fall?

Sweater weather is better weather

Sweaters are a major piece in my Fall/Winter wardrobe.

They can add the pop to any outfit. I have a uniform that consist of a cashmere sweater, checked shirt, necklace, dark jeans, and brown leather booties, Brougues, or leopard flats for the Fall.

white cable knit sweater, gingham shirt, denim and saddle bucks. this might be the year i break and buy myself a pair!
I love the look of a collar peeking out from a pullover sweater.

Today I am going to show you outfits that include a sweater.

These are outfits I would absolutely wear. If there is a part of the outfit I would change I will tell you how I would make it more ME!!

I hope what you are about to see, inspires you to pull out your sweaters, and start mixing and matching.

Houndstooth cardi
Black and White is always Right!!!

Mustard is a color that not everyone can wear, but it is a color I like to wear.

The only thing I would change in this outfit is the bracelet, I would have a gold large chain bracelet with this combination.

I would also prefer the leopard shoes to be without the silver studs.

love this look for fall
I would change the shoes to a black loafer for this particular outfit, but I love the combination of camel/tobacco with the denim blue and black.

Pink and Camel for FALL
Speaking of camel! I love pink with camel. In fact I am coveting this sweater for my Fall wardrobe. I would like to add a bit more pink this year to my fall colors that I already have in my wardrobe.

sweater coat, scarf
Don’t forget about sweater coats in a neutral color! I have a dark camel/tobacco sweater coat that I love to wear in cooler weather. I usually wear it with my dark washed jeans.

Yellow and polka dot

♥♥♥LOVE♥♥♥

navy. great looking zipper detail on sweater
Look for sweaters with details as pictured above. The little zipper is just the right touch to allow the polka dot blouse to peek out.

Ralph Lauren Black Label
Ralph Lauren always does a classic look. Notice the leather detail on the shoulder.

This one detail elevates the style of this sweater to a higher level. If this were in camel, it would be in my closet!!

I have a few sweaters on my radar that I would like to add to my wardrobe this year…….

A camel sweater with elbow patches…….

elbow patches on cardigans,♥

An off-white cable knit sweater……..

White Cable Knit Sweater-
A pink sweater, bright or even light will do…..

The Pink Pagoda: Pink Is For Fall
If you are just starting to build a sweater wardrobe I would start with three sweaters……

  • Black cashmere pull over
  • Cream cable knit
  • Your favorite color in a cashmere pullover

With those three sweaters you will be able to make many different outfits for your wardrobe.

Something Pretty For Your Fall Home and Garden

When the air gets crisp it is time to plant some ornamental Kale. I always plant it in my winter garden. Ornamental Kale will add a sculptural shape, texture and color to your Fall/Winter garden.

Fall Plantings ribbit

In the above image you can see my Fall plantings from last year.

I chose a color pallet of white, yellow, and purple. The soft green and white ornamental Kale was the perfect texture for this mix.

Every year I try to vary my color pallet slightly, but it always includes a touch of purple and ornamental Kale.

In 2011 I chose to use mostly purple flowers with ornamental Kale. My pumpkins will range in color from dark green, light green to white.

Kale can also be used inside your home. I like to use it in my kitchen……………

Easy to grow and maintain, so don’t be afraid to use it inside or outside in you very own home.

Here are a few more ideas on how to use Ornamental Kale…

For you orange lovers!! The purple Kale looks beautiful as an accent in this window box.
Beautiful fall urn. Downtown Chicago
You might not have an urn this large, but you could still do this on a smaller scale, or even in your flower bed.

a little Fall drama for your door
As you all know I am not an orange gal, but this is stunning. I love the offset design using the wheat.

Mixing the purple and white varieties makes a beautiful display.

Let me leave you with a group of plants that will mix beautifully with ornamental Kale to give you an idea of what you might be able to apply in your own garden…….

You will notice I use several plants for color and texture. This is what works for me in California, and I know it will vary in different parts of the country.

I don’t know about you, but I am ready to go dig in the dirt!!
