We Found A New BED!!

Yesterday’s shopping trip turned out to be successful. We looked at the French Maison bed first, because it was my first choice, and I was almost certain that it would work.

Wrong!! The finish was close, but too yellow so it would look like we tried to match, but missed. It is a beautiful bed if anyone is looking for that particular style and well made.

I eliminated the upholstered bed, it just did not feel like it would work for me in this particular room. I know aesthetically it would have been fine, but it just missed in my minds eye.

The plank bed was going to look way too massive, and create a horizontal line across the back wall, not the look I was going for.

I am beginning to sound like Goldilocks aren't I?

I realized after looking at the different finishes offered in most of the furniture that I would probably need to go for something entirely different, something a little darker.

Several of you had suggested going with a dark metal framed bed, but I personally don’t like metal beds, they look hard and uninviting to me, but I agreed with your design sense, it would aesthetically looked great.

I was  on my way to look at mattresses, and there it was!!! I heard angels sing, there was an aura around this bed!! Okay, not really but it did capture my interest.

I looked at the tag for the name, price etc. and there really was not much information on it. The salesman told us they had just put out this particular bed that very day, and they did not have all the information on it yet, nor the wood finished or fabric options.

Yes it has wood, and fabric!! Sounds good so far. I am going to show you a bed from Restoration Hardware that is very much like the one we plan on getting from Ethan Allen.

Now you will have to use your visual imagination………

The one we are looking at does not have the four posters, but the shape of the headboard, and foot-board are curved like this one, and it is about the same height.

We will have a choice in the wood color, and also in the fabric color.

Right now I am leaning towards a mocha colored wood, kind of a medium value color, which is the same color family that is the undertone in the distressing of my cream colored  night stands. It is the color that bleeds through, and is the color of the glazing as well on the cream pieces.

Right now my mind is telling me I need to do a cream inset linen in order to tie my existing nightstands, and armoire into the look.

With a mocha wood frame, and cream inset I would go with white bedding like I have now.

I would use less blue, and more white, and cream. I will only use blue as an accent, maybe in a pillow, not really sure right now.

The two styles of bed coverings I am looking at are a plain white diamond matelasse…….

I have also thought of the cream in the diamond matelasse. I ordered one in white for my son’s bed a couple of years ago from William Sonoma Home, but they no longer carry it, and Horchow only has it in a Queen. After a lot of looking I found a white one on eBay in a king size.

My other option would be a Hotel bedding like I already have with a sand/linen colored stitching which would pull the brown tone of the wood into the room nicely. I feel as if I need to have a touch of the sand/linen on the bedding to pull the wood bed frame into the scheme.

Another way of pulling the sand/linen color in would be with the shams.
I have loved a certain pillow sham for quite a while so I am thinking seriously about ordering  it. It is white with the mocha stitching in the embroidering.…….

Essex
Bedding is from Horchow, it is their Essex collection.

I have loved this boxed style sham for a long time. I think it will work with an all white bedding, or a Hotel bedding. I also love the white bedspread like the linen one above, but it does not come in a king so I can not get that one, or I think I might like it for a change!

So that is where I stand right now, the order is ready to be placed as soon as the color options are sent and we got our mattress there and really was pleased with our selection.

We finished the day off with a visit to Homegoods where we bought a mattress cover, and then went out for a nice dinner at our favorite Chinese food restaurant.

All and all I think it was a pretty nice day, plus I got to spend the whole day with my hubby, which is always a treat for me. I kind of like him!!!

Let me know what you think about bedding options I am always open to fresh eyes. Just keep in mind I want a fresh, soft, light, and airy feel. It also has to go with my existing pieces in the room.

To be perfectly honest I don’t like working for, “ME!” I am the worst client ever!!!

Thank you to all of you that chimed in on my last post. I really appreciate your input and I kept it in the back of my mind while looking. I love all my like-minded readers you all are just the best!!

I Get To Buy A New Piece Of Furniture!!

I am the kind of girl that gets beyond thrilled for the opportunity to look at, or buy a new piece of furniture for my home. I am sure I am not alone in this.

However, I am about to be in this situation, and I am not as thrilled as I should be. What?! You might ask!

t

I am about to start looking for a new bed because we are graduating to a King size bed after years of sleeping on a Queen.

I have what I think is a beautiful bedroom set. I am not normally a set kind of gal, but this particular set caught my eye over seven years ago. We got it to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary.

The above images are of my existing bedroom set. The bed is a canopy frame with side panels at the head of the bed. This is a picture of our armoire, and we even got the sink vanity to go with our set since it is in such close proximity to the armoire.

Throughout this post you will see images I have collected of rooms that are attractive to me for one reason or another.

I won’t bore you will all the reasons why we are getting a king size bed, you can probably figure that out on your own.

So now I am in a situation that I normally would love to be in, I get to  buy a new piece of furniture, and new bedding. My problem is I truly love what I have!

I am pretty set  that I will be sticking with a piece that will go with the nightstands, and my existing armoire. I also will be buying all white or very, very, pale blue bedding similar to what I have now.

I  have had the Hotel duvet for about twenty years.  I still love it, but I might be getting something without the Hotel stitching this time around.

So basically I will be looking for a cream headboard and either white or, soft blue bedding.

I have found a few beds that look interesting to me, and will be checking them out in the next couple of days.

They are at Ethan Allen, a local store that we bought our original set from.

Here is what I am considering:
Please feel free to chime in and leave me a comment on which bed you like the best for my situation!!

BED #1

This first bed is from their French collection, and I think it is the closest in matching the finish that is on my existing furniture which was in their Swedish Country Collection, which unfortunately they no longer carry anymore.

It is a bit more detailed than the other pieces that I have, but I think I could make it work.

The apprehensions I have with this one are, will it take my room in a different direction? Is it too fancy? I like my room  to feel simple, calm and fresh.

BED #2

This bed is in their New Country Collection, and it is probably more in keeping with the look/style of my existing pieces, but I am not sure the finish will work. I will be able to tell better once I see it in the store.
I could keep my bedding simple with this bed, and it would look more than appropriate.

My reluctance with this bed is, will it be too chunky, and massive looking in a King size? That is yet to be seen.

BED #3

I would not have to worry about the finish on this bed because it is upholstered, and I would either have it done in a simple white or cream fabric. The details are really quite pretty, and it would work with the overall feel and style of the bedroom.

My reluctance with this bed is it too trendy for me? Upholstered beds have been around for a long time, and I am not sure that I would not tire of it quickly.

So there you have it!!  My somewhat of a dilemma!

I am going to be looking at beds today, wish me luck!!

I am going to try to:

“Enjoy The Process!”

Are You Ready To Spread A Little ♥LOVE♥ ?

Valentine’s Day is only one week away so if we are going to do anything special now is the time to get it done.

There are so many fun ideas out in blog land that we could incorporate into our homes to make Vday seem more special for the people we love.

I thought I would share a few of the ideas  in the food area  ………

I had to start with this Vday cookie. It caught my eye with its black and white stripes. Just look at the details on this darling cookie.

No, she does not bake these to Sale, but I sure wish she did. You can click on the link under the picture to see her other baked delights. She really should start a business on Etsy. I would love to buy these!

More colors to choose from!

Shall we take an ordinary white cake, and fill it with love?….

You all know how I love Black and white! How about a little black and white instead of the typical red and white?…..

If you have little one’s that you pack a lunch for them to take to school, just think how surprised they will be when they open up this lunch!

I always have candy canes left from Christmas time. Next year I am going to remember this idea and use them for Vday!

Easy Peasy!! Lemon Squeezy!

Take an ordinary meal and make it special and full of love.

One year when my guys were little I took an ordinary meatloaf, and made it, and the mashed potatoes in the shape of a heart. It was so easy to do, and the kiddos loved it.

For those of you who don’t have time to make something you can order these cuties from William Sonoma.

I will be doing a couple of more post on some fun Vday ideas so keep coming back if you need some inspiration. I am here to help spread the ♥LOVE♥
