Another Way To Add Pattern In Your Room!!

We all have lamps in our rooms and they all have some kind of lamp shade on them. Generally speaking most shades will be in white, cream, or linen in most homes. How do you all feel about putting a little pattern on your lampshades?

I realize patterned lampshades will not work in all rooms, but I do think they can  add an extra finishing touch to a room.

I remember when Janell of Isabella and Max rooms showed us all how to make our own lampshades. She made a shade for her master bedroom…..

and a lampshade for her son’s bedroom……..

Of course I was drawn to the stripes!!

I have a few patterned shades in my own home, let me show you two of them…….

These are actually used in my guest room most of the time, but they have a temporary place in my master bedroom.

This lamp is on my desk. Notice another striped shade. I just love stripes!!!

Let me show you a variety of different looks. Try to visualize a patterned lamp shade on one or two of your lamps in a room to give your room a new accessory. You might be surprised at how it can change the look of  a room.

Of course I had to start out with a striped shade!!

Look how fun the patterned shades look on the drum shades.

How about a reverse printed shade. These types of shades look so pretty at night with the light coming through. In fact I have one on my front porch…….

If you are not into patterned shades how about a colored shade……

A bit over the top, literally!!! Still very fun and a bit whimsical.

Or maybe a metal shade would work for your room.

This room is full of color all bright and springy, but they grounded the room with the dark rug, and the pop of black shades on the hanging fixtures.

I often add black shades to my lamps for my winter look. Nothing makes a room look more cozy than a black shade on a lamp. The prettiest light comes from a black shade that has a gold lining. It gives the prettiest glow in a room.

There are two stores I think of immediately when I think of patterned shades.

First: For the unique, Anthropologie

The next store is Pottery Barn for a quieter look:

Is It A Playroom or A Guest Room??

Since the playroom is also a guest room when we have visitors we purchased the little love seat that makes out into a bed. It is from Ikea. I think it looks like it could be the Ektorp sofa's baby!

When an adult is going to stay I add a shelf with things that they could possibly need while they are staying here…….

Guest Room 004 (343x800)
Toys have been removed.
A stack of fresh, fluffy white towels tied with a green striped ribbon, and a bucket full of items that might be needed.

Decorating magazines and a bottle of water in a green glass.

Guest Room 006 (800x600)
Guest Room 007 (600x800) (2)
Inside are all the little items they might need.

That is how I turn my playroom into a guest room fit for adults.
This playroom is turning out to be quite versatile.

What are some of the ways  that help make your guest rooms more inviting for guest?

I hope you have enjoyed seeing how the playroom changes to accommodate my boys,  my girly-girl and adult visitors.

PINK Has Arrived In The Playroom!!

In my last post I revealed my playroom makeover. This is how the playroom looks most of the time……

fINISHED PLAYROOM Guest room 013 (600x800) (600x800)

I mentioned that when my little girly-girl comes for a stay I put out the color, “pink!”
You might remember these fabrics……

The main fabrics that are always in the room are the awning stripe and the large polka dot which I used as a curtain for the reading nook.

For our little girly-girl we had to add a touch of pink…….

Sarah seeing playroom 007 (800x600) (800x600)
The pillows have been changed to a bright floral and a crisp green lattice pattern. The shelves now have a pink ball and a stuffed bunny to cuddle with while she is sleeping.

Sarah seeing playroom 008 (800x600)
I need to purchase the bright pink bottles to put on top of the shelves, I just thought of that while looking at this picture! That proves that design is truly the never ending story.

In the little chair I have placed a round pillow that has a kaleidoscope of colors.

In this next image you will see something that really does make it a girly room……..
