Is Kathysue going to go "Rustic?!"

I have never considered my self a rustic girl or even a girl that needs a lot of texture in rooms. I do, however, like a few rustic pieces and would love to incorporate them in my home.

I have three items that I have always been drawn too that I never have purchased for my home, but they are always in my radar.

First, are Confit pots in pretty gold or green. I have always loved these. I also have admired the French Anduze pottery.

I think my mantel could accomodate a pair of any of these lovely pots, don’t you? I really love the pretty yellow/ochre pots. I think they could be a wonderful addition of texture to a room.

I have mentioned this next element as something I would like to add to my home in 2011. I am bound and determined to find just the right one.

I love the idea of a large basket for a coffee table. Not a new idea, but still a good use for a large basket. It is also wonderful for storage, which is a whole other issue in my home.

 

My next item is a dough bowl. I have always been drawn to the patina of these old wooden bowls. My grandmother and great-grandmother use to make their own bread and I can just visualize them making dough in a bowl similar to these bowls.

 

There are so many of you that love the rustic look that is so popular right now. You love burlap and the roughed up paint finishes, so it would not be a surprise to see these pieces in your homes.

In my home, however, I think it might be a bit of the unexpected and I like that!!

I don’t think most people that really know me would associate the word "rustic'  with  me.

 I usually love an understated elegant look. I think the addition of these pieces would give me some nice texture, and more of a casual feel in my home, don’t you?

Do you have elements that you are attracted too that would not necessarily be found in your style of decor? What are they? Do you see yourself ever incorporating something that is, "outside the box?"

Finding a New Favorite!!

First I fell in love with a room, then after going to the designers website I fell in love with the designer's work.

I was amazed that there was not one project that she designed that I did not feel was spot-on!!

There were some that were a bit dark for me or maybe not my own personal color choice, but the designs were impeccable.

Her use of color, symmetry, and just her fresh take on traditional design was right up my alley.

This is one designer that I would not be afraid to turn over my own home too. Coming from me that is a huge deal.(Okay I have a few control issues!)

The designer I am so enamoured with is Elizabeth Dinkel. In some of my researching for other post I ran upon her rooms more than once and was taken aback at how much I loved them.

No question why I love this so much!! Black and white diamond floor and just look at the gorgeous wallpaper in the dining room. I love this sooooo much!!

Perfect in every way.

Love the striped X bench at the end of the twin beds. The brightly campaign chest is just the right pop for the room. Did you notice the adorable giraffe wall lights?

The flame stitch wallpaper is so classic.

I really like the arched top treatment over the roman shade.

Timeless for a boys room.

I loved this image and did not realize it was done by Elizabeth Dinkel. I had it in my files because of the wallpaper.

So elegant!

Her use of cameo pink is just beautiful.

The beautiful tile back splash gives this kitchen such a soft look.

Playroom Inspiration

Now that you all know I am working on our playroom I thought I would share with you some of the pictures I have saved over the last year as my inspiration…………..

Love the colors.  The lamps are what makes this room pop!!

I also like the addition of baskets for texture and a depth of color.

Great option for storage.

Black and Spiro

A perfect spot to read. The books on display are not only decorative, but it encourages reading, and I am all about encouraging  children to read!!

The colors used in this room are, fun and the extra storage under the bed is always needed.

I like the clean look of the furniture and the low profile of storage.

Again, I love the colors, and I think a cozy nook for reading or napping is a great idea.

Great looking fabric on the roman shade and the bookcases outlining the window make a perfect frame work.

Add a little navy and turquoise and I would love the colors in this room. I think the small daybed with storage is great for a child's room.

 

This room just says, “FUN” to me. I love the use of bright colors and the baskets are another great storage idea.

So there you have my inspiration!! Can you tell what direction I am going to go towards and what are some the elements I will be using.

If a client were to give me these images I would dissect them to find out which of the above elements would need to be in the clients room in order to please them. Can you figure out mine????
