Long Pillows

I have already admitted my Pillow Addiction(here) so I might as well indulge myself a little bit and write another post about pillows. I find pillows to be one of the quickest ways to change a room. The price point goes from low to high so everyone can afford a pillow once in a while. I particulary love the drama of a long pillow. Have you ever considered the effect a long pillow would have on your bed or sofa. Take a look at these pillows and see what you think?.........

I might have placed this long pillow behind the smaller square pillows or even eliminated the small pillows and just place it in the center between the two end pillows. So much more of a Wow! factor than just the smaller pillows, don't you think?

I can not even imagine this bed without this long pillow, can you?

How fun is this room? I am not an orange girl as you know but this long orange pillow makes the sofa in my eyes.

Last but not least is Joni's bed from blog Cote de Texas. This is my favorite of all the images. I love checks and  this pillow is extra long and that gives it the drama. What a lovely room, Joni!

Now that you have seen all the images do you think you can find a place in your own home to use a long pillow. For those of you that sew, think of using two table runners as the fabric for a long pillow, that would look great!

 I just came up with a great idea for the playroom re-do. I need to talk to my seamstress to see if it can be done. I will get back to you  on that later.

Hints of Easter

You know that Easter is just around the corner. It is one week from this Sunday. I have a very busy week ahead of me, so I have been trying to do a few things ahead of time. I have been shopping for Easter Basket goodies. I also am trying to do a trial run on some of the elements for my Easter table. Here is a picture just to give you a little hint on what I am thinking about using........

As you can see I have been dyeing eggs a bright yellow to go with some of my plates I plan on using. You will also notice the cute egg holder from Anthropologie that I bought last month.
Here are a few things that I have learned in the process of dyeing egg shells.

1. Do not tell uninterested party how you plan on dyeing egg shells. He might just say something encouraging like, "Seems like an awful lot of trouble to me."
2. Wear latex gloves if you have them
3. Get a manicure AFTER you dye eggs if you did not wear latex gloves
4. Cleanser is the only thing to get the dye off of your finger tips that now look like nicotine stained fingers after you have dyed 2 doz. eggs; therefore needing a manicure desperately.
5. Make sure all egg residue is cleaned out before dipping in boiling colored water. Did you know that egg residue will cook? I do now! There is nothing like chunky yellow pieces of egg floating around to leave spots on your yellow eggs.
6. Do not walk away from dyeing eggs to check emails or you will have a two-toned egg and then you will have to figure out how much time the other side needs to sit to get to the same value of color as the other side.
7. Have a recipe on hand for egg quiche or a nice fritata because now you have a bowl full of opened eggs.
8. If your bowl of opened eggs looks full do NOT under any circumstances add "Just One More."
9. Last but not least, make sure you are alone, trust me on this. You will not want help or well-meaning advice from an on-looker or even the older children who are convinced they are professional egg dyers from years of experience.

I just thought you might want a heads-up in case you were going to crack your eggs, empty them out and then dye them.

Quick Question: Does anyone know if I need to keep these, now empty yellow eggshells in the refridgerator?

Sometimes in my looking around the web, I will run across an image that makes me stop and say,"Hmmmm, that is different."  I start to ponder a little bit and think of ways it could be applied. I then file it away in an inspiration file named...... You guessed it!!...."Something Different." Here are just a few of those images. I hope they make you think and inspire you like they did me.

I love this concept. Notice the slight arched cut-out to make the tub even more of a stand-out.  Adding the round mirror accentuates the curve of the arch nicely. I love the framing around the tub, almost making it like a piece of furniture. We have all seen matching sinks but I have not seen the consules seperated by the tub.

I have seen this done before but I think it is worth seeing again. Notice the cameo frame on the nightstand with the monogram.  You could take a simple little chest and add this custom look to it and give it a whole new life.

This is adorable for a child's room. This felt floor pillow with soft felt grass and mushrooms is darling.

This looks like an old over-mantle piece. Where there use to be mirrors they added the matching fabric as the bedding. What an impact this would make.

I find this to be rather whimsical. Not one, not two but three differnt sizes of a barrel shade, add trim and hang together and you have created a new and different looking light fixture.

A simple artist canvas painted in just the right color and then small holes for white lights to poke through and you have an interesting piece of artwork.

Here we have another small alcove that has been made to look more impressive with the addition of mouldings. I really love this idea.

We have all seen transom windows but I have never seen one like this. This is actually more like a grill in the arch. Can you imagine making this using old staircase spindles in different shapes? This would be a fun one to try and use your imagination.

In this picture there are a couple of things to point out. Notice the beamed ceiling and how they end on the wall with a corbel. Love this idea. I like the way it seperates each roman shade. Love the overly exaggerated stripe. I think the larger stripe gives the windows much more impact.

I found this on a wonderful blog called Delight by Design.  Be sure and go visit this blog you will not be disappointed.  I have seen artwork hung on the front of bookcases but not  in a window. This makes for a very clever vignette. Leave it to the amazing Suzanne Kasler!

Love the use of ottomans for benches instead of using chairs.

I really love this idea. It appears to be a window but, I was thinking why not a mirror above the door with interesting moulding to add to the architecture. I am really thinking about this to use above my master bedroom door that is at the end of a 29ft long hallway. In fact it might look great above all the bedroom doors if I keep it simple. Hmmmm???!!!!

How often do you see an archway like this one?

Small wall, Big clock, very large stencil! What a great impact to make a piece become even more important.

I found this interesting to hang all the artwork on what appears to be a small but long curtain rod.

If you are going to put a mirror in the kitchen, make sure it is a statement mirror. Love this idea.

I am in love with this bathroom. The wall color is a bit bright for me but everything else about it I love. I really like the use of the mirrors on the door fronts. I think this really opens up the space visually.

Line them up!! What a fun look for a bunk house effect. Love this idea.

A milk stool and a milk pail used as a sink, too clever.

Interesting use of deer heads.

These are sliding doors with glass. They slide on a mechanism like a barn door. Much nicer and more stylish than the traditional slider of the 70's

I am sure many of you have seen some of these images but I hope that seeing them today spurred some creativity in your wonderful decorating minds.  Let me know which image inspired you the most.  I was inspired by the little architectural window above the door in photo #12. I really think this would be a simple but a Wow factor.(poor Hubby has another project sometime in the future.)
