RESULTS OF THE HOME PERSONALITY TEST!!!

Now that we have all taken yesterdays test and found out whether or not our home reflects our own personality , what do we do with this information?  If you have found that it does reflect your personality then you are probably quite content in your surroundings .  What about finding out your home does not at all reflect your personality ?   I would venture to say that you probably have not been happy with that room or place in your home for a  long time.  Most likely, you are constantly having to rearrange it and clean it out. You may find yourself continuously  buying new things to try in the room or rearranging the furniture, but it still never quite seems right.  In a future post, I will go over some methods I have used to find out what you will really love in your home, Stay tuned for that!

So I have taken the test I  posted and here are the results of my test:

First I went into one of the favorite rooms in my home- my kitchen/ dinette.  You might have already seen this room  at RMS or on some of my dear friends blogs: Debbie at Professions of a Plate Addict, Marty,at A Stroll through Life; and Barb at Grits and Glamour ; Susan at Between Naps on The Porch;  Joni at Cote de Texas.  These five wonderful ladies very graciously posted my kitchen on their blogs.  OH!SORRY! I  am so moved by the generousity in blog land, I digressed from my test. Let's get back to this room and the test.  Here is a picture of  my kitchen/dinette

Fresh, Clean, Inviting

These are the three adjectives that I would use in my description, Now what does that mean in relation to my home and my personality?  According to the test these are the three things I like best about myself.  It is true I like to keep things in my life Fresh.  I have been known to open all the windows and let the fresh air in even in the dead of winter.  I have to have lots of light with nothing covering my windows.  I will often add new touches to my home just to keep it fresh and new looking.  I also have to have things clean, I am a little quirky that way.  What looks clean to me is an uncluttered enviroment and it has to smell clean, so I am always trying new cleaners with a fresh smell.  Lighter colors with sharp contrast give me a clean look also.  Now for the inviting I always like to be open to friends and family and make them feel welcome and invited  in my home. I was very lucky to be raised by a Mom that taught me the skill or welcoming people into my home, she was the Princess Grace of entertaining.  Are you starting to see how this works?

Next I will describe the paint colors in my home. They range from a white with a drop of yellow in it to a color that resembles French Vanilla Ice Cream to a Soft Buttery/Maize yellow

Warm, Cheerful, Inviting

This is suppose to describe my personality, I would only hope that it truly does describe me. However, to be honest, I think I prefer to leave that description to those who know me best.

Finally, for the really hard part of the test. My area of shame-Yikes! I can not believe I am going to show this but we have to keep it real in order to find our true decorating personality for our homes .  The funny thing is that in writing this, I realized I have several of these areas- hidden behind doors.  What then, does that say about me, Hmmmmm !!!

I know!  It's shameful, isn't it ?  And to think this is not the worst of my messes hidden behind doors.  The three adjectives I think of here are:

Disorganized,Cluttered,Messy

Ouch ! that was a little painful, now you have it . This is what I do not want people to know about me. Sometimes I can be  all of the above adjectives. These are qualities I do not want in my rooms, inside the closets or in the actual room itself.  I know I acknowledge that I am far from perfect and so I will always struggle with this.  However,  I also know enough about myself that if it starts to look, Disorganized,Cluttered,or Messy in my living spaces It drives me crazy. So what is the remedy?  Well the same remedy I go through several times a year.  I declutter by purging, organize by finding creative storage and I am much more vigilent about putting things in their proper place.  I need to join Lauren over at Pure Style Home to read the posting she is doing on this very subject.

ARE YOU FEELING THE LOVE YET?

I am not trying to rush the month of January away, however  Valentine's Day is right around the corner.  I think it is a good time to at least start thinking about your special someone.   Even if that special someone is YOU or your home.   I know that heart shaped items can look a bit cutesy at times.   I don't usually choose a heart motif for my own personal home but I do know many people that love hearts.  If you love country decor you probably have a heart accessory or two in your home.   I went browsing for some fun gifts  in cyber land and came up with a few that I would like to have so I thought I would share them with you .   I already showed the darling heart shaped ink well from Wisteria the other day so don't forget that one. Here are a few more that I have found:

I think these would look great as they are shown or even in a shadow box on the wall. Think about attaching a little love note that says,"You have the key to my heart."  You can find these at Pottery Barn.  There is no shipping on this item right now.

How about a bowlful of these little beauties.  The texture and the color in these are wonderful.  They would also look great placed on top of your napkin on your Valentine table setting.  Think about using all natural elements on your table.   Linen ,moss, twigs and these wonderful rocks.  I love putting beautiful ,formal looking flowers, like roses with the rough and natural textures of a natural table setting.

These are just fun to look at.  I would scatter these on my table that would be set with crystal, silver and all white dishes on a crisp white linen tablecloth.  Red roses in a silver pitcher and red rose petals scattered on the table.  Simple and Elegant from Red Envelope

I had to post this!  The name is just too perfect to pass up.  I have not smelled this fragrance myself but  I have been told that it is clean and fresh .  I think it is worth a try for Valentine's Day.  It is made by Philosophy and all of their fragrances are light and not over powering at all.  My favorite is Amazing Grace.

We have two items to set a lovely, romantic, Valentines table so how about some food?  I discovered this company a few years ago when I purchased this as a Christmas gift with an entertaining theme.  I purchased some all white serving pieces in crisp geometric shapes from Crate and Barrel.  I ordered two of these dinners from a company called, Destination Dinners.  They have a wide varitey of meals from all over the world. They come in a beautiful presentation box .  Inside you will find all the exotic spices and ingredients other than fresh produce or meat to fix a wonderful and tasty meal for two.  It even comes with the recipe.  You could set a table up in front of the fireplace and stay at home and enjoy a meal from an exotic country.  This company also offers kits with the dishes and serving pieces.  Those cost more and my criteria for these gifts was $25 or less but please feel free to splurge, afterall it is Valentine's Day! and you are worth it.

Last but not least are golf balls.  Sorry to all the golf widows but your golfing man would  love these.  These balls can have a message printed on them.  Since we are talking about Valentine's Day it should probably be a message of LOVE.  I know it is tempting to write something about being home instead of being on the golf course but resist that thought.  Remember this is all about LOVE.   You need to allow three weeks to get these so that is one of the reasons I am posting this a little early.

I hope some of these ideas have spurred your creative juices.  Maybe this year you can have a Valentines Day with an extra added bonus of, a gift for you, a gift for the house and a gift for the one you LOVE.

"IT'S A BLUE MOANDAY"

Do you ever feel like it is a Moanday instead of a Monday?  You know you feel a little moany-groany. The weekend excitement or relaxation is over and you have to get back on the treadmill of life. You go back kicking and screaming. OK maybe that is a little dramatic but you know what I mean, don't you? Well today is a Moanday so maybe I am feeling a little blue.Wait a minute, BLUE I really like blue!! I feel better already. I know either you like blue rooms or you don't,but I realllllllly do. In fact I have always had either a blue bedroom or had blue as the dominant color in the room. I Know you have to be very careful in choosing the right blue. Always go on the gray side of blue or you will have something that resembles a robins egg or a Little Boy Blue bedroom. I thought I would show you some blue rooms that have been done right.

Gorgeous, I mean it is just Gorgeous, soothing, peaceful and restful.  In my mind everything a room should be .Notice how they upholstered the alcove behind the bed and the great moulding around the opening. Let's talk textures, we have shine, brass and glass coffee table. The shiney end table which is alllllll glass,Yum. The rough texture of the sculptured carpet and the woven blinds under the beautiful drapes.This is a room that is done very well .

All blue and cream with touches of dark wood to ground the room. Looks inviting!

This room has plenty of places to sit or lay if you want to take a little cat nap. I would love to sit in a room like this with just the right amount of blue.

Here is a wonderful attic space done by designer Candace Olson. This is the way to work a room with blue.

I found the use of these benches an interesting choice over a regular chair. The carpet is gorgeous and the table helps ground the entire space. I love a big bowl of crisp green apples and the view is not half bad either. Speaking of blue in its best form, water.

This wall color is a blue more on the gray side so it remains soothing to eye.

This dining room is on the turqouise side of blue which happens to be Pantones color of 2010. I am sure you have all already read about that.This room makes me smile.

Now this is what I call a Master Suite. Even though the room just has just touches of blue it still has just the right amount of blue for me.

All I can say is Yum! I just know that telescope is for looking out at the Ocean.

I don't feel Blue any more but I sure want to see more Blue rooms,How about you, do you like blue in your rooms?
