A Summer Arrival At My House

Would you believe I am still making summer changes to my family room?

Even with the whisperings of Fall that are going around blogland I will still hold onto Summer for a bit.

Yesterday helped me hold onto Summer with the arrival of my Summer pillows.

It took me awhile to find just the perfect fabric, but when I saw it, I KNEW it would be perfect in the room.

(fabric is Nebula from Pindler and Pindler)

I have two 22 in. pillows with a 5/8in flange of the ticking stripe on the diagonal. I love a trimmed out look and the addition of the flange was the perfect touch for my room.

Here they are in their Summer Room!

They seem to add a coolness to the room. Just what I wanted!

They mix well with the other blues in the room.

The next Summer pillow is for the blue ticking sofa.

I decided for a clean simple look so I only have one pillow on my sofa! You heard right, just ONE pillow.

BUT! This pillow is a big one!! It is 15” X 44”

I would have made it even larger, but I have a plan for this pillow. Yes, there is more to be added.

The way the pattern layed out this was the maximum length I could get in order to have the  solid cream panel in the middle.

I am going to take this big beauty to have a very large blue letter, “P” monogrammed right in the center  of the middle cream panel. 

So there you have it! My latest Summer look for my family room.

I am still holding on to the last bits of Summer!

SIMPLICITY Is Not As SIMPLE As It Looks

   

Simplicity in design is not always an easy thing to do well. Just because there are usually less pieces to deal with, does not mean it is easy to  achieve an interesting and cohesive design.

I often use the term, Simple-Understated-Elegance, referring to my preferred style.

Today I am taking it a step further by showing you images of rooms that I find, “Simple!” Simple, yes, but very well designed.

At first glance you will notice there is not a lot going on in the room, but look more closely at each, and every element, and how beautiful it marries to all the other elements in the room, producing a simple and cohesive design…….

SIMPLE? YES, INTERESTING? ABSOLUTELY

I noticed in studying each image that there were certain qualities that they all offered……….

• Interesting architectural details
• Varied textures
• Furniture silhouettes were varied
• Quality pieces were used, but kept to a minimum
• Patterns were kept to tone-on-tone geometric patterns
• Each piece of furniture in the room had a function
• Neutral backgrounds

Trying To Seek BALANCE In Life

Yesterday I came to a realization that lately my life felt a little unbalanced. I am a firm believer that you have to have a well balanced life.

By balanced I mean, spiritually, mentally, and physically. All of these areas must be fed equal proportions throughout the day. At least as closely as you can get to equal.

I decided I would try to be more balanced yesterday, I read my morning devotional, had prayer time. 

I worked out in the yard for a little physical activity. 

But the most precious time was spent with my husband listening to a beautiful song he had found that touched his heart, and he wanted to share it with me.

You see music is very important in our home. My husband has a wonderful singing voice so music touches our hearts deeply.

 

I immediately realized when the song started that it was a precious moment, not only with my husband but with my God. 

You see this song stirred up emotions of gratitude for all the moments, and all the beauty God has given me to see in my life time.

I don't know if it will hit the same cord with you or not, but I feel it is definitely worth sharing today........
