How To Make Easy Ghost Doughnuts For Halloween

FUN WITH FOOD FOR HALLOWEEN

When my boys were in Kindergarten they would make Ghost Doughnuts in their classroom for a Halloween treat.

It was so easy to do with the kiddos that I started making them every year for Halloween along with the traditional Snickerdoodle cookies.

They are so easy, fun, and tasty I thought I would share with all of you how to do it, so you can do it with, or for your families.

My grown kids still love a good ghost doughnut.

FYI:

This should always been done with adult supervision since we will be working with very hot cooking oil.

To Start You Will Need:

Frying pan
Cooking oil
Canned biscuits
(buttermilk works well, just the small regular sized biscuit, not the Grands)
Paper towels
Waxed paper
Shaker of cinnamon and sugar mixture

Set your fry pan for about 400-425 degrees.

Cut a piece of waxed paper for your work surface. ( I always wet my counter with a rag before putting down the wax paper, and it will stick to the counter)

NOW FOR THE FUN PART, MAKING THE GHOST!!

Find a willing helper, preferably younger than YOU!!

Have your young helper poke two of their fingers through the biscuit to make the eyes.

Then they need to stretch the holes to make them as big as they can without breaking the dough (if they break the dough apart, just put in a patch, no big deal)……

Now for the mouth!!

Time to stretch out that mouth!

REALLY Stretch it out!!!

Pinch off a little of the dough off of one of the biscuits that is not made into a ghost yet, and test your oil to make sure it is hot enough before placing the ghostly face in the pan….

Perfect, it is bubbling, that means it is good to go!

FOR ADULTS ONLY!

Place your ghostly face in the pan……

Place on 2 layers of paper towels….

Now for a dusting of something to make it sweet. We like cinnamon, and sugar on our doughnuts, but you could also use powdered sugar for a white ghost if you like.

Make a bunch because they won’t stay on the plate very long!

The Pretty Side Of Halloween

When my boys were little we would go all out with our decorations for Halloween.

Young families would walk their children around the neighborhood in groups. I would always have hot cider in To-Go cups for the parents. Friends would stop by, and visit for a few minutes.

It was so much fun, and has given us all some sweet memories.

One thing I never liked was scary decorations. There are too many precious little ones out there in costumes waiting for a treat, not a scary trick.

I did not want to traumatize the sweet little ones in Cinderella, or Spiderman costumes.

Go to Goodwill and find some inexpensive items to spray paint black and add some cute little pumpkins with happy faces!!

This is my kind of Halloween decorating. Again, go to Goodwill and purchase those inexpensive vases we all have seen and spray them matte black! This is one of my favorite ideas for my home.

Something I Am Loving At The Moment

Do you ever see something that just catches your fancy?

You know that you have seen it many times before,

but for some reason, all of the sudden it becomes something that is very appealing to you. You start noticing it more, and more as you look around blogland.

That is how it has been lately for me, with paneled walls. Not the old brown paneling that our parents had in the 60’s and 70’s.

A fresher look, one that adds dimension, and interest to a room.

Let me show the paneled walls that are really catching my fancy right now…….

These walls are a little more complicated, and traditional than the last image. This is true judges panels, but not just as a wainscoting, the entire wall. Love this!!
